Played the beta and didn’t even realize the game fully launched. Good to know that it should be avoided for now.
That “demo” was so complicated and condensed it made my head spin. It’s a demo, and you want me to be how invested to understand the entire game’s core mechanics?! “Plus, ride here and set up camp for respawn.” looks at a field with 1000s of tents set up for that same quest.
In case you’d not heard, these concerns are overblown. People read a line about “if required by local law we will ask that you provide government ID” and ran to Twitter decrying the Chinese company stealing your government ID.
The irony is, they wouldn’t have your ID (or any other info in that list) unless you give it to them.
Yeah, I went and read up on it after and it seems pretty clear that it is dependent on local laws.
I think the time to decry that topic was when those local laws were being passed for those affected…
There’s pretty much only one place that line pertains to, and it’s China. I don’t believe it’s happening anywhere else.
IIRC it’s because China has deemed “game addiction” a health concern, and forces companies to put in place either blocks on progress/rewards or just completely prevent game access.
Pretty please let us collect and sell your data. 👉👈
From my understanding, this was extremely overblown. They apparently have a pretty standard privacy policy, and the concerning parts only applied where they legally had to- like China.
Pirate Software has a whole video where he goes through their privacy policy and talks about it. Personally, I trust that more than I trust Steam reviews and randoms on social media.
Frankly, I just kind of assume all Chinese games/devs are going to have privacy concerns and that disregarding your privacy is a requirement for engaging with them.
