the chinese aren’t worse engineers than americans, they’re just usually more incentivised to reduce cost than increase quality
anyway I think the thinkpad design team is still in japan
they’re built way better than their t14/p14s counterparts though, iirc they use the magic alloy for the chassis instead of plastic

I think this wire is a bit difficult to solder because it’s very thick, with a normal soldering iron it might pull away too much heat for the two wires to get to temperature
It’s normal for the wire to get hot while soldering though, and it’s fine to an extent. Just don’t hold them with your hands :)
If you’re having difficulties, it might be better to “tin” each of the wires before soldering. It makes it a lot easier in terms of holding the wires in place
would be interesting but I bet the FSF won’t like it
