Interesting idea but type conversion and parsing is much more slower than wasting 1 byte. Nowadays memory is “free” and the main issue is the execution speed.

EDIT: If they refer to encryption as just encryption on message transport that’s just HTTPs, to verify that they are not saving your data, the backend source code needs to be available to analyze it.

Vivaldi is not open source, so for me it doesn’t count as a valid option.
