I know I used to keep mine. Restaurants and bars are often set up with heavy tip policing where all tips on shift are accounted for and pooled and kitchen staff get a cut. But check out tills, service station kiosks and other jobs of that sort generally have no tip policy.
CBC just had an interview the other day that said most of the point of sale tips get kept by the owners.
