I will put my trust in Zelenskyy and his team (keep in mind I didn’t vote for him in 2019, but I respect him for his courage and commitment to fighting back against russian genocidal imperialism).

My personal take is there is nothing to gain from working with Trump. He is a corrupt right wing authoritarian oligarch, of course he is going to back Putin. Might as well “rip off the bandaid” now and deal with reality. A more sober public posture towards Trump and US oligarchs (and implicitly parts of American society) might actually push the EU to act with haste and avoid putting their heads in the sand.

I am not saying this will work, but we don’t have many good options. In such a situation, you might as well go with a high risk, high reward strategy.

EU to act with haste and avoid putting their heads in the sand.

This is 200% needed, I believe for sure, something ( hopefully big) is in the making.

Northern European citizens seem certainly in favor. To me, the Southern-Europe stance is less clear.

Also, afaik, all EU( Orbán probably not?), UK, Australia, Canada and Turkya acknowledge Zelensky as the current democratic elected president, and have send out press-releases. They are trying to pressure Trump’s administration. We’ll probably know much more after de German election, because they are waiting for them to go forward. Merz seems to be the favorite, and he promised a more proactive stance.

But, these are all words, now we need also concrete material actions using a win-win strategy. We all need to remain souverign and so we hope.

I read something in foxnews searching the net (not the most reliable source). But it creates a context to what Trump’s thinking.

" Russia has insisted it will not sign a peace agreement until Ukraine agrees to hold elections, and the U.S. is now “floating” the idea of a three-stage plan:"

    • ceasefire,
    • then Ukrainian elections,
    • then inking of a peace.

Trump’s trying to arrange nr 2, by insulting Zelensky about being a dictator and forcing elections

Trump is doing the work for Ruzzia, so fuck him. Ukraine won’t accept this and neither will Europe.

This is basically what Russia wanted, why are they even calling it a negotiations?

What they are discussing is removing sanctions on Russia and discussing how far NATO borders should move.

What Russia means by “elections” is a referendum held in Donbas – where most of the the native Ukraine population can’t vote because they were killed or displaced. And anyone still left who doesn’t vote the right way gets tortured or disappeared.
