Hello everyone,
Currently, I’ve been using Descript for editing, but I’ve encountered some limitations:
- The Descript app is not available for Linux.
- The browser-based version has limited features.
I don’t want to switch from Linux just for this. I’m searching for an alternative that is both fully compatible and feature-rich. Ideally, the alternative should have:
- Multi-track editing
- Transcription services
- Easy-to-use interface
- Help me spend minimal time editing without hiring someone 😅
I’d love to hear your recommendations and experiences with other platforms that fulfill these criteria.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. Looking forward to your suggestions!
Have you reached out to Descript? I think it’s electron based, they might be able to package a mostly working version.
I’ll try reaching out, thanks!
Reached out (posted on their feedback site). Linux has been requested since 4 years ago so not high priority by the looks. With other issues I’ve been having I may move away from it soon if they’re not resolved.
Wine or a KVM might be options. Blender can do everything except the transcription. There’s probably other software or a plugin that can do that.
Thanks! I thought Blender was for making 3D animations? Didn’t realise you can use it for video editing. I can potentially use Whisper for transcriptions.
To build off of the previous commenter. (kind of a gamer centric answer) but if you have steam installed you might try running it as a non-steam game with proton enabled in the properties.
I find that this frequently works for a lot of windows applications that I’ve tried. (or you can try this with lutris as well)
It’s not the most feature rich video editor. There are other options. It’s a capable software/hammer than I reach for often whenever something resembles a nail.
