Not really true in newer models. The Tesla charger was adopted as the North American Charging System (NACS.) Pretty much every new EV made in the last 2 years uses it, and all of them will moving forward.
“You gotta recharge sometime”… You don’t think other brands do EVs?
Even if they didn’t, you generally recharge in your house where hopefully not everyone can see your stuff.

I’m not in north America, I think for Europe IEC 92196 Typ 2 is the norm.
