They were not “making the mice transgender”.

From the Whitehouse’s 6 evil studies list:

Three of them were studying the long-term effects of gender-affirming hormone therapy on the growth of the skeleton, how it affects fertility, and if it changes your breast cancer risk. These are all things that people who are against transgender care use as reasons to stop transgender care. So they were potentially a way for the government to say “no” to this kind of hormone therapy and have some scientific backing for why. (Note: the results of these studies weren’t going the way anti-trans numpties would have liked. I’m sure that has nothing to do with it though.)

One is studying (as best I can determine) how GA therapy works, I guess because we don’t really fully understand it. This one used “transgenic” mice (scary!) to help isolate the processes. That means they were genetically modified.

There was a very scary one about how such hormone therapy affects the effectiveness of the HIV vaccine. (They made sure to list this one first with its homophobantitransantivax trifecta).

One study they claimed in their list was actually just a comparison of asthma between men and women (nothing about transgender, but it mentioned “gonadal hormones” which is like, so gross).
Edit to add: This one also accounts for over 1/3 of their claimed savings and is only tangentially related to transgender women because of the estrogen they take. It was mainly focused on laying a basis for future therapies for everyone with lung disease.

A bunch of the info came from here: https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2025/03/white-house-scared-of-trans-mouse/

I also read through the abstracts from the studies listed and linked in the Whitehouse press release.

Good point, estrogen is related to trans women. We should ban estrogen and force everyone to take antiestrogens, so nobody can be a trans woman. Also, vaginas. We should make vaginas illegal.

Expanding on this, that means testosterone is related to trans men, so we should prevent people from taking testosterone. There’s a ton of MAGA “alpha males” who take testosterone, which is what I would call GA care

You’d think the republicans would want this. If they can make something transgender, then they can probably also make something not transgender.

If you go through that route, you will end up supporting science… They’d rather kill themselves first.

I know it’s not the case because the studies basically are for a wider population set than just transgender people… But even if it weren’t, even if it was to create a population of trans mice to use for experiments benefiting trans people; we need it.

People rag on about the possibilities of regret for the transitioned but it is so statistically rare that it really isn’t a huge problem… but one of the actual risks of existing as a trans or intersex person is medicine in general doesn’t test or teach for your population. Trans people are very often given entirely wrong doses of meds because of assumptions about how they should react to them. Rule of thumb is that the adage that for anyone on horomones “trans women are women, trans men are men” is basically the way to go. This is because if you treat an Assigned male at birth person on feminizing estrogen like you would a phenotyical cis man for purposes of dose chances are that you will give them too much. The drugs will linger in the paitents system just like drugs do for cis women and we already know that is a great way to cause unwanted damages to the paitents’ organ function and for desired care outcomes to tank. There are also some meds and health conditions which do have unique presentations in populations with mixed sex characteristics and a more in depth understanding of the nature of sex and the body is how you get cool new things.

There is a largely empty hole in medicine where trans and intersex people are concerned and having an army of “transgender” mice to test against actually would be something of benefit. I know this is a generally unacceptable thing to point out to transphobes however because in a lot of ways they just want being trans to be riskier to force people away from considering being openly trans as a viable option.

So it’s not as simple as these memes are making it. They were making mice transgender but it was to study the effects on the transitioning hormones had on their bodies abilities to fight HIV. I have now explained what is actually happening but it doesn’t align with either side so I’m ready for my downvotes.

Am I the only one who was mildly upset that they weren’t? Like shit, we somehow got to bio-transhumanism before techno-transhumanism, that’s rad. By all means, let’s research new ways of being transgender, I wanna see what people come up with next.

An 8 million dollar research program? Wow, that’s so efficient! We should honestly be asking their PIs how to deliver on that kind of budget to learn from them.
