“Due to changes in U.S. tariff policies, we will be suspending all orders shipping from China to the United States starting today,” writes Anbernic. “We strongly recommend prioritizing products shipped from our U.S. warehouse, which are currently not affected by import duties and can be purchased with confidence.”

Prices starting at 2000 USD, even with the legalised child labour that red states are pushing for.

The Chinese child and adult slave labor that is currently used to build these products isn’t any better.

Nobody thinks about that. They just see the price and pretty much always pick the cheaper one. Ignoring the fact that Chinese work conditions are way worse than American work conditions, and the MSRP reflects that. People feign that they care about it until they actually have to pay, then cry that they cant buy the exploitative product because its more expensive now. Since they cant see the exploitation, its easier for them to justify it because it gives them a better price.

Red, blue, or magenta, the political landscape of the people involved doesn’t matter. People being greedy and selfish is way older than American politics.

China aren’t really known for dirt cheap labour anymore because they are mostly doing what the West is doing, which is offloading their labour to even poorer countries in South-East Asia and other developing countries.

Which doesn’t really change the equation overall, of course.

The crazy part is none of this was necessary… sucks to be an American right now, things are going to get so expensive they will get crushed.

calling these “game boy clones” isn’t quite right because they don’t take physical cartridges, but this is a real shame. companies like them and Miyoo and Retroid have been carving out a nice niche of gaming devices between a fully locked down console and a Whole Ass Personal Computer but this tariff situation is gonna kill them in their tracks stateside

I was wanting to wait a while longer on the Retroid Pocket 5 for financial reasons, but the tariffs spooked me that something like this might happen or the price would go way up so I ended up buying one a couple days ago just in case

You may still get hit with the tariff if it’s shipped from overseas. In such a scenario, you’re the importer and likely responsible for any duties and fees.

FYI tarrifs are not calculated at purchase. They’re calculated when the device gets inspected by customs. Not out of the woods until it clears em if you don’t have it in hand yet
