A 15 year old girl can get married and change her name but a trans person can’t.

because they found 18 years old is not an adequate age to ensure “maturity” and warrant such a “life-altering” decision.

Thousands of little old ladies named Lesley or similar are rolling in their day beds

publicly identifying yourself as a queer person was always going to backfire, I would always advise against doing so, not that it makes life much easier

having said that the state thinks I’m a white man so I’m kinda playing the game with a secret identity on easy mode (my legal name is very masculine)

how the state identifies you on paper is largely inconsquential outside of medical stuff, I find the concept of a ‘dead’ name to be very unhelpful

the person I was, am, and always have been is not dead, why anyone would want a passport etc that identifies them as a queer person is a bit beyond me

    / rant

Wouldn’t I then be outing myself to every employer/any time I need to show ID? Not really a way around identifying as queer either way if your birth/dead name is too far from how you want to present.

I look like a cis woman, having my old masc name was extremely dangerous and basically outed me. no one names a girl that name. My employers dont know and while I’m sure they could search some government records, they haven’t. Probably wouldn’t have even got the job way back when if they knew I was trans

There are many cultures where upon reaching adulthood its entirely normal to change your name, people are too caught up with this shit, its abrahamic gunk, but not even because catholics all have secret club names like salazar or michelangelo that arent listed on government forms

such a life long life altering decision. as we all know, everyone must tattoo their name on their forehead. and getting the tattoo is an extremely dangerous procedure, more dangerous than getting your head blown off in afghanistan, getting married to a 50 year old as a 15 year old, or wrecking your car into a brick wall at the age of 14
