At 11:30 a.m. on April 30, 1975, the gate of the Independence Palace was knocked down, the flag of the Liberation Army fluttered right at the headquarters of the Saigon government in the joy and anticipation of the whole nation. From here, the South was completely liberated, the country of Vietnam was unified.
This was the greatest victory, ending 30 years of long and arduous war against foreign invaders of the Vietnamese people, opening a new era - the era of national independence and socialism throughout the entire Vietnamese Fatherland.
The Ho Chi Minh Campaign marked a major turning point in the nation’s history, completely fulfilling the goal of “Fighting to drive the Americans out, fighting to overthrow the puppets” as proposed by President Ho Chi Minh; liberating the entire South, ending 21 years of national division, leading to the unification, independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Vietnam on land, in the air and at sea; bringing our nation into a new era.
