With the war in Pakistan i had to download reddit, insta and twitter to keep up.
I genuinely despise them so much and going back to non lemmy social media after so long just reminds me of how fucking grateful I am that Lemmy exists.
Bluesky is fine simply bc there is noone there. The people who post moved but the masses didn’t.
LinkedIn in lunatics.
Reddit is probably the one ive ended up gating more than any other despite it being the one I could bear pre Lemmy.
Twitter I haven’t used much anyways. But feels horrible with the limited use.
Insta is all thirst traps somehow.
Reddit. When they implemented their API pricing, they could have been upfront, but instead they put words into the mouths of 3rd party developers. When the 3rd party developers posted the recordings of the conversations, Reddit doubled down instead of apologizing. At that point, I washed my hands of Reddit. People who will directly lie in the face of evidence cannot be trusted. I have not been back since.

Reddit was always like this.
Now they’ve made ads indistinguishable from posts.
The discourse is generally low quality, divisive and likely bot driven.
Yes the quality of discourse is in the gutters.
Thats the biggest problem now
I just liked the concept of having subreddits. But Lemmy kind if fills that for me now so I am fine without it.
Twitter may be embracing fascist slop, nazi bullshit, and gorenography, but I still think Instagram is worse. It is near impossible to see what your friends are posting if they’re not an overachiever meme page or a corporate entity, the fyp is like the same 5 or 4 tags of content you’ve liked recently, and let’s not forget that they did nothing to address the hate algorithms that were exposed years ago
I don’t know which I hate the most, but since I don’t use any Meta products (finally dropped Whatsapp too last March), or Twitter (which I dropped after they made BetterTweetDeck unusable even before Felon took over), or Reddit (got banned from r/worldnews, r/asmongold among others), or Snapchat (which went along with insta and Threads earlier), so basically the only social media I actively use is… Youtube? And I hate all the social media aspects in there that I cannot evade. So I guess Youtube’s social media AI slop is the one I tolerate the most.
I dont even think of yt as social media but a video hosting site.
Yeah, that (the video hosting) is why I’m still using it. I started using Youtube in high school at the latest, so around 20 years ago (Youtube was launched in -05 so it couldn’t be earlier) and it’s the only one from those days I still use. But because everything tries to be a social media, and because of Alphabet’s rampant capitalism and the continued enshittification of everything it lies its grubby, fat, little fingers (kinda like DJT’s in a way), it has those disgusting aspects of social media forced on its users.
btw have you encountered the forced AI voice translation of videos yet? if there is one part of modern internet that I hate and absolutely despise the most, that causes more rashes than ads and more epileptic fits than all of the AI slop you can force down my throat, is when the internet is in my own language when it shouldn’t be and I have never asked it to be. if I’d want to watch shit in my own language I’d fucking search for shit in my own language, and there is a reason I never do (because it’s shit and cringe as fuck). if you’re gonna offer this service to the unwashed masses, at least let them op out. But no, it’s always on by default, and the video creator has to turn it off.
Ive seen ai videos with ai voices. Including translations. I despise it all. Just skip all ai slop, but never forced translations. Just stuff that people have translated and posted. Didnt realise yt was doing this.
Ofc auto subtitle translations ive used
The way Reddit fosters echo-chambers probably makes it the worst in my book.
As if the idea of a sub wasn’t echo chambery enough you add downvotes to that
Reddit might be bad but the garbage rage baiting and algorithms designed to show you the dumbest takes on twitter and threads is sooo much worse in my opinion
Lemmy is quickly becoming the same way. People have started entire threads in different forums to try to get me banned from Lemmy, just because they don’t agree with me. Rather than just be mad at me and block me, they legit go to other threads, and even call out admins, in an effort to get me banned from every instance.
All because I didn’t vote the way they wanted me! lolol
I still prefer Lemmy to Reddit though!
Instagram/Facebook and its “Business” products. I truly believe Meta actively works on making its products as unusable as possible in a brower. As in: removing, breaking or obscuring functions that work in their apps. **This makes working as a team with different device types a massive pain in the ass. **
Don’t even try to be logged out of an account and use these sites in a browser. You might as well have a 5 year old write a html page on a ducking Disney Princess Play Click & Swap Laptop that is more usable in a browser than Instagram without an account.
Facebook. It’s easy to drop all the other platforms, but even my homeowner association insists on using FB for communication, which locks everyone into Meta’s data harvest. 🤢
Whatsapp, reddit and youtube.
The rest I can do without.I don’t have the energy to hate like that. If I don’t like it and I’m not getting any use out of it, I just avoid it.
That is the way. (Also what ive mostly done until last week)

Insta is all thirst traps somehow.
You get recommended what you see. My Instagram is all photography.
But I watch Italian brainrot, memes, babies and sports stuff.
PS. Alex fell is a photography page on insta that I love.
LinkedIn.
Imagine Twitter and Facebook teaming up for a Dragon Ball style fusion, turning into this cringe fake business guru with a Ghibli style profile picture, spitting out AI generated posts and running impression based non-sense polls.
I never understood the attraction to linkedin.
I want social media social for shits and giggled and entertainment. Work related networking is neither.
It’s like having a beer with coworkers instead of going out with friends. Hard pass.
I agree that the linkedin culture is really bad, but the algorithm itself isn’t too horrible compared to facebook/Instagram.
For sheer aggravation, Facebook. I’ve been on it long enough to remember the chronological timeline, which made it easy to see your friends’ posts. Now you basically have to visit your friends’ profile to see what they’ve posted recently.
Instagram/Threads I don’t hate quite so much, but I avoid Meta products as much as possible due to my hatred of Zuck. I left Twitter and Reddit a while ago, not because I hated them but rather because I hate Elon and spez.
Not even war could make me download Facebook
X, for all the reasons.
Seen Kyle? Have you seen Kyle?
With the plant?
Facebook, I live in a small rural town of about 4000 people and the amount of brain damage that is posted is insane. Not just political but just everything in general is just brain rot.
I like deliberate brainrot. Not accidental brainrot
Agreed. I have not actively used Facebook in years, but it is a bit of a joy to login once a month and just scroll through all of the lunacy.
I especially hate that Reddit sold out so hard, because it really is the only search result worth anything anymore. I quit Instagram and Twitter as well, can’t quite give up Facebook because of my Livejournal friends. Would give my kidney for Livejournal to make a comeback.
Reddit was genuinely good at a point! It’s insane how far it fell in 2 years. Or maybe my standards are different now
I hate them all so much the last one I used and made an account for was Facebook, and that account has stayed entirely unused for about a decade. I can only handle so much stupidity at a time and I hate being disappointed by my friends’ uncooked, ignorant opinions so I’d rather be blind and deaf to what they do and say online, I just judge them for what they say and do to me directly…
I don’t think Reddit counts as ‘social media’, it’s a message board, a place for pseudonymous debate, but not what I would consider a social media site.
