          The Vulcan Bridge is my all time favourite Cold War story. Capitalist government turning your town infrastructure need into an internal border conflict, making you call multiple government offices, watch them fight, and you still don’t have a new bridge? Ask the communists, very publicly, if they will build you a bridge as Foreign Aid, and shame your federal government into building the bridge, just to keep “US can’t afford basic infrastructure” out of a Soviet newspaper!

    Slashing NASA’s budget will fuck the USA’s ability to pursue space science for years to come, and on top of that there’s an absolute embargo on NASA doing any collaboration with CNSA so they can’t even ride the coattails.

    China has a purpose built rocket they’ve been working of for decades and know exactly how and what they will do with it.

    Meanwhile the US is stuck trying to get to the moon with a pile of recycled scrap from the shuttle program that were never conceived to do what they’re trying to make it do, a starship that will either continue to explode mid flight or be stuck in low orbit until they figure out how to launch 20+ of them in a row to top the cryogenic tanks in orbit and a program that looks more like a vague outline rushed to present to investors in time than an actual plan.
