Don’t misunderstand, I don’t disagree. Israel is a propped up puppet of the US. (a puppet pulling back on the strings of the puppeteer)
I was simply stating that many people in the west have stopped caring. Religions nationalism does that. Its the basis for the racist imperialism the leadership of Israel and the US are propagating. To get people to tolerate genocide and violence, religion is an excellent tool. Fear of the “other” and denial of your own weakness are powerful motivators.
I think we need to separate the US from most of Europe.
I don’t disagree on the religious nationalism when it comes the the US (not sure as I don’t live there, but it does sound consistent with the discourse I hear from there).
However in Europe religion is on the wane and the biggest supporter of Israel, Germany, isn’t really a religious country and ditto for Britain.
Whilst one could go “yeah, but Italy is also a big supporter of Israel”, Spain which is similiar in terms of religiosity (both intensity and the specific Christian sect popular there) is almost the opposite.
Further, public support for Israel is pretty low in Europe - it’s mostly the politicians forcing it rather than the public wanting it, which is why for example even in Britain which is an insane supporter of Israel there have been demonstrations against the Genocide with over half a million people and there are even people risking years in jail just to support Palestine following the Palestine Action being deemed a Terrorist Organisation by the Home Office authoritarian abuse and even in Germany and Italy there have been large demonstrations recently against supporting Israel.
Maybe Israel does have - as their politicians say - “Western Values”, in the sense of the “West” being just the US, because both have very large Religious Nationalism and White Colonialism problems, but that doesn’t seem to be shared by the rest of the West, at least not Europe and not the Religious Nationalism part (though a shared White Colonialist mindset might very well be the explanation for why so many of the power elites in Europe support Israel even whilst the public does not)
PS: From my own personal observations here in Europe, even the people who support Israel do so motivated by political loyalty rather than religion or any love for colonialism: basically their political tribe’s leaders have for their own reasons decided to support Israel and those people then just parrot that shit because that’s what their tribal “chiefs” are saying.
