CBS New York has been digging into the history of the Bronx building that partially collapsed on Monday afternoon, and the past violations at the property.

The property has seven open violations, according to the Department of Buildings. One of those is from March of 2021, related to a hazardous conditions on the facade.

The building is 96 years old and from a black-and-white picture obtained by CBS New York, which was taken between 1939 and 1941, not much has been updated on the exterior.

Investigative reporter Tim McNicholas found Google Street View images from November of last year that clearly show cracks in the corner of the building where the collapse happened.

How many violations does the average pre-war building of that size have in NYC?

    Also apparently

the city says none of the open violations are for structural hazards on the building, itself

I would say this refers to the Australian Emu war in 1932. Because that shit is already funny, the date is close enough to match how the term is used, and it had absolutely nothing to do with America to double the absurdity factor.

But it’s a very low bar to be funnier than WW2.

“Prewar” actually refers to the last war with a battle in the location you’re referring to. So prewar in much of Europe is WWII and in much of New York City it’s a reference to the Revolutionary War which had the Battle of Brooklyn. This collapse happened in the Bronx however. The Bronx has the infamous Battle of the Bronx, which means the war in question is infact the ongoing Basketball Wars.

Pre-war refers to anything built before the ²nd Time War of 2208. If you want more information give me a few weeks and we can talk about it more last week.

Bring your toolbelt, millennials, this open floor plan needs some love but your parents had enough time to teach you how to use tools, right? Uh oh! For the low-low price of $1,000,000, this property is a steal! Get it if you can afford the down payment! We know you’ve got two jobs.

Can’t have that when developers and landlords are the biggest contributors to campaigns.

Yep… My city just had a building collapse last year that made national news that had all the same signs and symptoms as this one. People died from the collapse and the landlord cried victim as criminal investigations were launched against him. And guess what? Turns out the landlord is a huge piece of shit with multiple properties in an abysmal state and he paid off city inspectors to turn a blind eye. He got a few hundred dollar fine and continues to not be in jail. This country is just rotten all over the place.

They were working on the building at the time. The problem is, none of the violations were structural. So clearly the building inspector didn’t get it right.
