Not sure what community to post this in so I’ll post it here.
Many years ago I used to see this one stretchy toy in every gift shop and toy store. Now I can’t find a single trace of it online and it’s driving me up the wall. Here’s everything I know about it so far:
- It was a squishy sphere, made of stretchy rubbery material, with a circular hole on the bottom. One piece, all made of the same material.
- The ball could be turned inside out. One side had little squishy spikes on it and the other side was smooth.
- The marketing material showed a kid wearing the toy stretched over his head, spiky-side-out like a wig.
- It came in solid colors like blue, green and orange.
- It was about the size of a grapefruit.
I can’t be the only one who remembers this. Would love to know the name so I can get this out of my head.
That’s it! I remember it being a single color and I don’t remember it having any holes around the spikes.
Maybe it’s been modified for kids who want to wear it over their face

I thought you were talking about these until you said it’s the size of a grapefruit and you wear it on your head. Not sure I remember that…
I remember those though! Simpler times.
Seeing as the question has already been answered I’ll ask a question of my own.
What do you need this toy for OP?
He needed it to advertise the website that was linked right after he posted it.
It kind of reminds me of those koosh balls, but the inside out spike sounds more like HyperFlex inside out balls.
Thanks!
I’m imagining a pitch board meeting with a bunch of old, white dudes in suits quizzically trying to understand these while some dorky R&D guy is like, “it’s gonna be huge!” And that is making me chuckle more than it probably should
Kids are always fascinated by the strangest things. I remember being excited about a new refrigerator because I wanted the big box.
That’s exactly why I was excited for a new fridge as a kid! My dad cut a window and a closable door in it, and it had a little, lop-sided chimney. It was also painted the most god-awful burnt orange lol
I should rewatch The Hudsucker Proxy
