U18 players are ‘under 18 years old’, almost always at the top of the age bracket so 16 or 17. Most of those kids look way younger than that. Maybe that’s the best pictures they had of them, or maybe it’s some sort of media manipulation, i don’t know or care really. Still tragic.

Sure. But it’s better than nothing. There are renewable power sources available. It might not make sense now but unless we push the tech forward, it will never get there. At one point solar and wind weren’t really viable options, but people pushed the tech forward and now they are.
Yes that’s interesting. So who gave the order - there must be some kind of record. Or was is a mole, or Hamas making a fake call? Or were the soldiers making up an excuse as they had been lazy? Surely such an accusation should be followed up on as much as possible, but all we get is that one little bit of ‘testimony’ in a clearly biased article that blurs named sources with unsubstantiated ‘reports’.
It might be true for all I know, but it seems very unlikely. If true, it’s very important to know where such an order came from. The people of Israel aren’t stupid - they wouldn’t stand for an intentional lapse in security. So what’s the real story? - why would such a huge accusation be a minor footnote?
Yes that would be good. But in places where such truth and reconciliation efforts have happened (s Africa, Canada), there has always been a reasonable amount of stability first. It won’t happen while there’s fighting. It won’t happen with the current Israeli government anyway, of course; but hopefully that will change at some point.
Note that Germany wasn’t eliminated. In fact it’s as strong and as large as ever. It was just the government that changed. Yes - I think the right wing Israeli government should be kicked out, either by democracy or external pressure. But that won’t be the end of Israel.
That would be ideal. But how feasible is it to kill combatants without any civilian casualties?
Not to justify their actions in any way, but for the sake of honesty, the Israelis haven’t killed anywhere near that many.
Well written. And I do call for Israel to stop its wonton disregard for civilian safety and their embargo on aid - not that my voice means much. I do avoid the g word because it’s not well defined and I don’t think it’s useful. I agree that Hamas cannot be completely destroyed - but I think the Israeli perspective is that it can be meaningfully reduced so as to provide some period of peace (for Israelis). As unacceptable as it is, their response to the Oct attack will likely dissuade further such actions for a while.

All tech takes time and effort to develop to a point where it’s useful. Sure there are a lot of dead ends too. But some carbon capture is better than none.

So you don’t know what they should do either. Fair. And that’s the point, they have no good options. I think we can agree that what they’re doing now isn’t a good path. But unless there is a tangible solution for long term peace available, I don’t see how they will be convinced to change their strategy.
The point is that the U.S. defends its support of Israel as helping Israel defeat Hamas. That argument goes away if Hamas surrenders. No it might not stop the U.S. as the US government seems to be a bunch of loonies these days, but one might hope that it could trigger enough grass roots pressure to make a difference.

I wonder what the US military would do if the current administration’s head was cut off quickly enough so no significant orders went out to the military from them. Marshal law then eventually an election?
