  • It’s buggy, doesn’t properly support screen sharing, doesn’t properly support voice calls, and all the available clients are hit or miss over which features they have. I personally think it’s harder to switch over from Discord to Matrix than from Reddit to Lemmy. Matrix sucks, but that’s probably because it’s built for businesses organizations to use, not common users like us. For that reason, I still think we need a real replacement to Discord built to be federated from the beginning.

  • I swear, erotador makes one small comment about being poly and it turns into a winding ass thread about the ethics of monogamy. I may be poly, but if I was in a relationship with the expectation of monogamy, I’d feel betrayed if they then broke that expectation without telling me. The problem wouldn’t be that they slept with someone, the problem would be that they lied. They would be free to be with whoever they want, but all of my relationships are contingent on open communication. If that communication isn’t there, then the agreement is broken.

  • Machine learning is a useful technology that can do amazing things. “AI” is the cultural phenomenon of people thinking we created a magical solution to every problem. Machine learning might be able to sometimes query a search engine better, but LLMs will never know anything about the world because that’s not what it was designed for. Machine learning can make workers more productive, but we’re nowhere near the point where it can be a laborer itself. People should lean how the technology actually works so they realize that half of the corporate implementations are a bad idea.
