Technology@lemmy.world•A Farmer Donated Land to Turn into a Park. The City Is Building a Massive Data Center InsteadEnglish
33·2 天前Eminent domain didn’t factor into this particular case. The Taylor Economic Development Corporation simply ignored the deed and sold the land to BPP Projects LLC/Blueprint while Taylor City Council and Judge Ryan Larson approved and upheld it respectively.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Finally found a pair of pants that fit very goodEnglish
6·6 天前If you fly Porter airlines then you might have actually seen the person in the photo. Probably their e192-e2. Lower left is a flight attendant seat and the door in the back is to the cockpit. Porter wallpaper is on the bulkhead likley between toilet and seating. Photo was likely taken without the subjects consent.

Technology@lemmy.world•Ordinary WiFi can now identify people with near perfect accuracyEnglish
1·15 天前Sounds like the higher frequency 6G would have better resolution (potentially sub mm?) than Wifi 7’s ~5cm. Article about 6G ISAC.

Technology@lemmy.world•Ordinary WiFi can now identify people with near perfect accuracyEnglish
2·16 天前The first time I heard about this was in 2013 and, in 2019, I had a local government management class where wifi sensing in busy downtown areas and stadiums was discussed as a plus side to municipal wifi installations. In the latter case it was described as being available not too far in the future.
This is from a series of photos by Joseph Byron Clayton. It went viral back in 2014, here is an article from back then.
A reverse image search helps since anything predating decent image generation is in the clear.

Is this it? Seems to have been posted around the time the Chernobyl show was airing.

pics@lemmy.world•Medieval reenactment fight, photo by Stephen MossEnglish
1·1 个月前The OP is from a (likely scripted) reenactment for entertainment. In other photos you can see one combatant throwing a tankard and the other spitting in the others’ face both actions would get a DQ in most medieval martial arts competitions. Here’s a list of other medieval fighting leagues.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•For those with lower-back issues, what's been the best work-chair for you?English
3·1 个月前Those kneeling office chairs really hurt my knees, I’m too tall to use saddle chairs at a regular desk and with exercise balls its hard for me to get the height right. As far as chairs go what helped me was finding a chair with adjustible lumbar support, and adjustible spring tension on reclining. Steelcase used to offer all of these features but it looks like they don’t have as much adjustment now. I’ve heard good things about Herman Miller but I’ve never tried them. As for lifestyle changes: a heating pad to loosen cramps, free weights to strengthen, and a foam roller to help realign the spine have all helped me. ymmv obv.

3·1 个月前Was he involved with Juicy Couture? You might be thinking of PINK which was a line through Victoria Secret.
This is an edit of an edit. Here is a less cropped version from a tiktok that I’m pretty sure uses ai to swap faces. It has a volume button baked into the bottom right corner so its not using the original base image either. I could have sworn there was a version on reddit/imgur that was older but I can’t find it.

This is an ancient meme, the earliest extant mention was 23 July 2010, way before photo generation was viable. You can see remnants of the original facebook conversation here. TLDR: The original circumstances aren’t much different from the OP except he allegedly stole from his parents to buy said items and his mom made him hold the sign in front of his school.

Technology@lemmy.world•"Every great search must come to an end": Ask.com shutdown, ending ask Jeeves.English
1·1 个月前Yeah, they started using the google index in 2010.
They’re usually too busy asking for us to ‘return the slab’ to talk about computers.
Just needs a plaid shirt and a pair of khakis and you’re most of the way there.
I’ve seen 2 groups of people that have an interest in there family history: people confronted with mortality, either their own or that of a loved one; and people interested in history and research in general. The people that OOP is describing are more interested in an identity than they are genealogy.

There are nonprofits that help organize to prevent the exploitation/displacement of low income populations while higher income areas are left to self organize. It would also have been useful to track political affiliation of these neighborhoods since it could be a political divide instead. I think people in the the $133k-$250k would be more conservative and thus more pro data center.
As an aside: I wish people would quit using the term ‘working class’ to refer to income level, its such a fuzzy term. Using ‘low income’ and ‘high income’ makes more sense in this case as it better reflects what Geoff Holtzman is talking about and working class could be refering to employment type.
