  • Get a white noise generator app; I use TMSoft’s White Noise, which lets me put together my own mix. I generally make one with some pink noise (like white noise, but pitched differently and for me it does a better job screening background noise); then, because that’s just a straight sound which can get irritating after a while, I put in a rainstorm over the pink noise. Then I add in some thunder, which is useful in helping my sleeping brain ignore bass notes like garbage trucks and vacuum cleaners. That takes care of interrupting sounds, and also helps nudge my brain into sleep mode when I turn it on.

The other thing for me are both blackout curtains and a sleep mask. The sleep mask because the blackout curtains aren’t quite good enough; the blackout curtains because I have to take off the mask to pee during the day and don’t want to get assaulted by the sun.

    Phone off silent, obs.

  • Trump adviser Stephen Miller’s first election night message to men was mild. If you know any men who haven’t voted, get them to the polls.

Miller sounded noticeably more panicked when he took to X half an hour later, after the first polls had closed. WHAT ARE YOU DOING RIGHT NOW TO TURN OUT THE TRUMP VOTE? CALLING, TEXTING, EMAILING, DRIVING TO THE POLLS? TURN OUT THE VOTE!!!

And an hour after that, Miller’s tone had reached a fever-pitch as he made a fear-stoking appeal to men and railed against undocumented immigrants in the most inflammatory language possible. Illegals are raping and murdering American children. All the men of America need to fulfill their duty, get to the voting booth, and end the invasion once and for all.

  • Israel has made it more than clear that, under Netanyahu and quite possibly after him, that they sell nothing less than the total removal of the Palestinian people from “greater Israel” (bc they want lebensraum). The only leverage Gaza has rn are the hostages. They’d be fools to give them up in hopes that Israel might make their open-air concentration camp a little more pleasant.

  • Ooh:

To [the person running the group that created the ad], the furious responses from some men online reinforces the need for the video’s message. “They took a person’s sanctity of their ballot and turned it into a conversation about men owning the behaviors of the women in their life,” Pagitt said. “And like, well, I didn’t think you were going to make our point for us. We’re very grateful that you did.”

  • Years ago, I took a sociology class, and one of the things they covered (briefly) was the differences in communication styles between genders. This is something I’ve always remembered:

You know how there are these old-time stereotypes about your spouse, where the wife always complains that her husband never listens to her and the husband claims that his wife is always changing her mind? Turns out that (in a general sense) when women are listening to someone speak, they tend to nod their heads, whereas men don’t nod.

The thing is that the women were nodding to show that they were listening to what the other person was saying, while the husbands were interpreting the nods as agreement to what was being said. The wives were interpreting their husbands’ lack of response as “he never listens” and the husbands were interpreting the mods followed by disagreement as “she’s always changing her mind”. Such a simple stylistic difference on how we communicate, and it’s led to so much misunderstanding over the years.

I’ve been thinking of that difference a lot these past few months, where so many right-wing men are absolutely convinced that they’re right and everyone obviously agrees with them, and how they’re always blindsided and confused when that turns out to not be the case. And I wonder how much miscommunication (or not-correcting misunderstandings) is going on between couples these days.
