News@lemmy.world•New Covid variant has been identified and is already spreading in 25 states
1·22 days agoThey still exist, but the number of samples is orders of magnitude away from what we’ve been used to in the early years of the pandemic.

You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK that coffee is healthy. Starbucks is not real coffee. It's trash.
54·1 month agoI agree with everything except for this part:
Almost every coffee shop that sells coffee also sells sweetened and frozen coffee drinks, with similar caloric/sugar content.
You wouldn’t find another coffee shop in my city that sells anything comparable to the sugar-milk-coffee drinks from Starbucks. An affogato or caffè freddo probably has less than half the amount of sugar. They have pastries that dissolve your enamel within three bites though.
But to reiterate, wrong community for this post.
And why would any of these players invest $100b to lower their product’s prices at the risk of overproducing

When asked if he had any health issues people should know about, he replied, “Of course not,”
Hehe that’s funny

Technology@lemmy.world•Days after killing the brand, Crucial shows up at Delhi Comic-Con — As Micron pivots to AI, Crucial's presence likely booked out months in advance to eventEnglish
721·4 months agoAt no point has Micron ever stated they’re switching to HBM memory. Micron isn’t “pivoting to AI” and neither are its fabs. If you write this as a journalist, you clearly take your opinion from reddit and lack common industry knowledge.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why does everyone put celery in soup stock?
1·4 months agoIn addition to what the others said about mirepoix, or stock, soups are experienced as more full-bodied or wholehearted when celery root is added. The earthy, bitter taste can be balanced by the right combination of sweetness (from other vegetables) and saltiness or used as intensifying effect for a strong umami taste, e.g. in poultry stock.
I haven’t met anyone who specifically disliked the taste of celery root in soups yet.
Out of curiosity, do you also dislike other earthy tastes, like truffles, lamb, champignons, girolles?
The amyloid plaque one had 2.500 citations, by the way, and apparently it’s the second most cited paper to be retracted. The most cited retracted paper is Jiang, Y., Jahagirdar, B., Reinhardt, R. et al.: Pluripotency of mesenchymal stem cells derived from adult marrow, which claimed that adult stem cells could become any type of cell.

Dull Men's Club@lemmy.world•I just bought 2.5kg of unflavored protein powder
3·4 months agoWhile that is true, there are many, many studies now that show beneficial effects to physical and neurological health and longevity from an intake that is higher than recommended in the 80s or 90s.
It’s not very complicated. Coco Chanel was a nazi collaborator.
The number for Germany seems to also include Lohnfortzahlung and Krankengeld (employer only pays part of a sick employee’s salary, rest is paid by health insurance) maybe that’s why. Germany is also a world champion of unnecessary surgeries.

There’s one appreciating the efforts of the health care sector during the SARS pandemic.
Not as cool as giving everyone a fat cheque, but still a nice gesture.
