Technology@lemmy.world•China says 'world's first' offshore wind-powered underwater data center has entered full operation, houses 2,000 servers — 24 megawatt subsea AI facility uses ocean water for passive cooling and offs…English
12·24 hours agoThere was an Intel experiment a while back where they left a bunch of racks in the parking lot. They found that the failure rate wasn’t much higher than inside, and not needing a data center building saved money. Maybe this project just accepts the eventual failure of components.

5·2 days agoI just planted some. The packet said not to harvest the first year, harvest lightly the second, and then it’s party time. Kind of intimidating, honestly, to need to keep it alive that long.

2·4 days agoThere are a ton of classic audio drama from the 40s-60s, if your tastes allow. My faves are:
-
Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar - “The insurance investigator with the action-packed expense account”
-
Gunsmoke - “U.S. Marshall Matt Dillon. The first man they look for and the last they want to meet. It’s a chancy job. Keeps a man watchful… and a little lonely.”
-
The Shadow - “Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men! The Shadow knows!”
-
I was a Communist for the FBI - “The true story of Matt Cevetik who, for nine fantastic years, lived as a Communist for the F.B.I.!”
And if you would prefer something similar but more modern, The Thrilling Adventure Hour is a long-running stage show in L.A. in the style of classic radio drama. The main segments are:
-
Sparks Nevada, Marshall on Mars! - “Along with his faithful Martian deputy Croach the Tracker, he rights the outlaw wrongs on Mars.”
-
Beyond Belief - “Meet Frank and Sadie Doyle, toast of the upper crust, headliners on the society pages, and oh yes… They See Ghosts!”

1·4 days agoIs Wolf 359 Star Trek fan fiction? That’s the name of a real star system, but also a key historical battle in Star Trek lore.
Either way, you may like the Star Trek audio drama “Star Trek: Outpost” from Giant Gnome Productions. It’s very good.

2·4 days ago“Well there’s your problem” sounds like a funny version of the very well produced “Cautionary Tales”.
We all agree that Duel of the Fates is at least top 3 in the franchise sound track, right?
