World News@lemmy.world•France's Macron urges calm after far-right activist fatally beatenEnglish
725·16 days agoThe avg IQ on Lemmy is either room temperature or it’s full of edgy teenagers having their rebellion moment. It baffles me that saying “yeah, I don’t wanna live in a society where I can be lynched because some mob decided to be judge jury and executioner for a day” is heavily downvoted and gets people triggered smh

15·17 days agoThat’s so historically inaccurate I’m amazed it’s got so many upvotes. Let’s go through the SA case:
- the ANC’s armed wing insignificant and largely ineffective throughout the struggle (Mandela himself acknowledged this, and that the MK was largely symbolic).
- MK sabotage campaigns never posed a genuine military threat to the apartheid state
- By the 1980s, most MK leadership was in exile, imprisoned, or neutralized
Apartheid was successfully brought down in SA mostly because of huge international economic sanctions and divestment, mass civil disobedience and labour strikes (read about the United Democratic Front’s campaigns), and the moral delegitimisafiom of apartheid through Non-violent resistance.
Same with the US: people love to point at the Black Panthers, but they were systematically destroyed or marginalized (so ineffective besides vibes). The Civil Rights Movement succeeded precisely because it maintained non-violence even when met with brutal repression.
I maintain that anyone that encourages violence, especially online these days must be a glowie. Want to be radical and revolutionary? Stop paying your taxes lmao.

2·17 days agoBecause hyperscalers can buy multiple orders of magnitude more of anything consumers can buy collectively. And they won’t complain, and if their shit breaks they’ll just buy 100,000 pallets-worth more. Consumers have reviews, thoughts, drama and will never have the margins hyperscalers can have.
Thank anti-antitrust, Wall St for this. I’m genuinely depressed at the state of personal computing, I see a future of thin clients and renting compute as a genuinely possible future.

1322·17 days agoNon-violent protests work because it really highlights the brutality of the oppressor in contrast to the moral righteousness of the protestor. It’s a public opinion tool.
However, the moment you move into the arena of violence, all of this is null and void. The only question is: who has the bigger guns? That person will win.
In this case, whatever you think of the moral standpoint of the two students, the ICE-banner student has the optics in their favour. They can claim (and have in the video) that they’re peacefully protesting and exposing the violence of their oppressor, opressor that resorts to violence at the slightest disagreement. Truth doesn’t matter anymore, everything is about optics (look at the DOJ FFS).
Good on the kid I guess, but this same admin called in the National Guard because Big Balls got jumped. Ggwp

Every time I’ve been in trouble, people went out of their way to do a good thing for a stranger they had no connection to.
People are the problem

The “alpha-male” era manosphere enjoyers don’t care. This meme is basically ammunition to say “see, we need to end universal suffrage” to their communities
I do deradicalisation work with men I find IRL or online, I think there’s a better way for men, but they’re actively pyoped into voting and acting against their own interests.
Can’t express how many of them (at least in my country) point to memes like this as “see, feminism just wants to shame men, it’s not about equality, I’m gonna vote for (insert Christofascist that wants Handmaiden’s Tale IRL) because he ‘stands up for my rights’”.
The creeps that you mention don’t care that you’re mean to them, they also can’t be convinced to change their political stance, they’re irrecoverable misogynists.
Unless you plan to form an armed paramilitary of radfems (which would be cool), I see yelling about “triggered men” as a pretty bad political strategy, because it alienates exactly the guys that are on the fence and could be convinced to abandon internalised misogyny and become feminists. Feminists already don’t get triggered by this, creeps don’t care.

3·23 days agoYeah, my fear is that European leaders will get too comfortable switching from one hegemon to the other and the root issue of the EU not being able to stand on its own without some sort of guarantor won’t ever be solved.
If China is hegemon, I don’t think the EU would appreciate the types of tribute they’d have to pay to Beijing

Brother, you have the full internet at your fingertips, I gave you an example with plenty of keywords you can search yourself.
EDIT: ffs, here you go, can’t wait to see how you’re gonna dismiss this again as “oh it’s not hundreds” (it is, if you search lmao)
