6·30 days agoThese are great, learned 2 new words I never heard before. Slightly related, but in fine fettle can also be used to refer to someone in good shape (mentally or physically).
The temperature difference between streets in our neighborhood that have trees and those that don’t is eye-opening. Even more so with parks. Trees create such a pleasant micro-climate.

8·2 months agoHaven’t had this particular brand, but I’ve made vegan musubi before with another. Turned out great and tbh I couldn’t tell the difference. The only downside was the price difference.

1·2 months agoStoked. I missed playing MGS3 when it first came out and am glad to hear this remake is exactly like the original because I hear it was arguably the best in the series.
That’s refreshing to see in a world of ever increasing enshittification. Wish more companies move in this direction.

Government regulation matters and hence why voting is important. We all benefit from preserving the Amazon and yet the right is actively trying to profit from its destruction. What good is wealth if the planet becomes inhospitable?
Somewhat related PSA. I used to have an unscreened window in my home office and started noticing birds would fly into it on occasion. Found out it’s actually pretty common and can be fatal to the unwitting bird, so I put some post-it notes on the window to help them see/avoid it. There are ready-made products for this exact purpose as well. Both seem to do the job and cut down on collisions.

We have solar but found another option, push reel mowers was perfect for our small yard. It’s a bit more of effort if the grass is tall (we have UC Verde drought tolerant grass so I let it grow out to cut down on watering) but I don’t ever have to worry about batteries or gas/fumes/noise. Plus I get a workout and it was basically the only type of mower that’s still made domestically.
Can attest the Amish-made ones are built like tanks and run smooth (provided the grass is on the shorter side)

I’m a big proponent of buying local whenever possible. This plus something similar for physical products is really useful no matter where you live.
