I was in Seattle in 2020, after the protests started people were complaining that Macklemore didn’t make any statement, come out to protest, or anything for months, just silent. I hadn’t thought of that really, that is fucked. Most reasonable people I know are opposed to the death penalty, so that does seem pretty effective for biasing the jury. But maybe they will get some that are like “of course I love the death penalty, that’s what Luigi doled out and it was well deserved. Not guilty.”

From what I saw they were pretty early on it, citing scholarly opinion that it was a genocide long before I saw most libs really come around to calling it that. They do love their appeals to academic sources, and there was widespread agreement among scholars that Israel’s actions qualified as genocide.
