with the recent death of the shows theme-song singer jack jones, i thought id give this a rewatch having not seen it since it aired…
i found it more entertaining than i expected… at least so far. im not sure how it made it to 10 seasons, but some highlights ive noted…
-
cast is introduced as crew, and not even by character name except julie
-
at least 3 or 4 celebrity appearances every episode! its kinda neat seeing all these old stars out of their element in small vignettes. seriously every star you can think of of this era seems to have popped on.
-
the ship is so freakin tiny. you have to think there are mega-yachts bigger these days
-
writing can be funny. the relationship ‘advice’ is somewhat dated, but not inappropriate at times. ‘family ties’ mom (MBB) is in a centerfold the first episode!
so far it could have been titled ‘the apology boat’ due to the wraps ups of most stories almost completely entail confession and apology.
Fun fact… Fred Grandy (Gopher) went on to become a United States Congressman from Iowa.
This was always on after Hogan’s Heroes on TV land
The enshittification of streaming has pushed me towards watching old series like this on DVD, and I’ve been enjoying it.
If you’ve never seen it, look up ‘The Prisoner.’
It’s as if Franz Kafka and John LeCarre teamed up to write a Doctor Who spinoff.
Yea, I’ve been collecting stuff from my local library. It’s surprising what they have or can get. Just check out the DVDs and rip them. Many I convert to MP4 (especially Old TV shows).
it was also kicked up to the surface on the (ironically) high seas due to the recent death.
