Summary
The Washington Post editorial board announced support for nearly all of Donald Trump’s Cabinet nominees, except four: Pete Hegseth, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Tulsi Gabbard, and Russell Vought.
The board justified its decisions by prioritizing minimal disqualifying factors over strong qualifications.
Some nominees, including Pam Bondi and Chris Wright, were approved despite controversies, such as ties to Trump’s 2020 election denial and climate change skepticism.
Critics argue the endorsements reflect loyalty over merit, raising concerns about the nominees’ qualifications and the paper’s objectivity under Jeff Bezos’s ownership.
I thought they weren’t making political endorsements anymore…
This is our “liberal media”, correct?
Yes, but you gotta remember that liberalism is a capitalist ideology based on racism, colonialism, etc.
If the liberals of
RedditLemmy could understand that, they’d be very upset.
I’ll admit they suckered me with a really good deal when Ann Telnaes left. But this is showing that she was 100% right. It’s time to cancel WaPo folks. It’s no better than the US Chamber of Commerce’s* press releases.
Note - Not actually a government agency, they’re a business lobby that cosplays a government agency.
Wow. That is a crazy change.
Who cares? Not sure they have an audience anymore… alienated both sides and their own staff, tons of major departures. These opinions are embarrassing, desperate attempts to sound relevant again.
Propaganda machine owned by a billionaire supports an incoming fascist regime? Aw man, too bad this has never happened before and we have no history to learn from about this.
Linda McMahon in charge of education is fine with them?
There’s not even any darkness left for democracy to die in anymore.
Wrestling is still real to them
I love this.
I guess it’s what those braindead readers want.
Someone who agrees with Trump’s election interference, of which a news story breaks that said he would have been convicted for his meddling, is seen as someone with strong qualifications for Attorney General?! Yeah fuck you.
Not really they keep taking huge hits on their subscriber numbers. 10% dropped after the non-endorsement crap. I’m interested in finding numbers for Ann Telnaes’ departure and the bleeding of the newsroom. But there’s a reason they show ads on their page now.
Propaganda machine…feels like the author doesn’t know this isn’t a news organization anymore.
Not disappointed I cancelled my subscription
Really cool they…
prioritized minimal disqualifying factors over strong qualifications.
So, there’s nothing great about them, and they are just above the bar on “disqualifying” as they see it.
So happy I cancelled my subscription last year. The once venerable paper we loved is gone.
It’s completely sane if you consider the shared class interests of Trump and Bezos.
Bezos, a rich white billionaire who owns WP, donated money to Trump, also a rich white billionaire.
Now WP supports Trump. What a coincidence.
The WaPo is dead to me.
