Just buy an old Japanese Honda or Toyota and keep it running forever. No one needs a “new” cat at this point.
Edit: car not cat but leaving it for lols.
Fr, they scratch up your furniture too
Doh!
Somewhat related to how bad it is at that company right now:
Yesterday my brother and I drove by a brand new Jeep Wrangler (had a new car plate) that looked like a 24 or 25 that was burnt to the ground from the engine (my guess as the burning was much worse there than the cabin.) Emergency services were there still putting water on the engine bay but the ambulances were already gone. Hopefully everyone is okay.
It’s a trend with jeeps. I already know 2 people that have had the burnt Jeep phenomenon
Damn, that sucks. Hope they’re all okay!
Nobody was in the vehicle at the time on both occasions.
That’s great news! Thank you.
It’s the only way to get your money back.
I can deal with ad when watching TV or YouTube. But ads in the car, even while stopped, is just begging for someone to get killed. Will never even consider getting a jeep. I’m probably gonna have to get a new car in a couple of years and I want something new, but dumb. I want as little smart shit as possible, which is probably not going to be a thing.
Agreed. Designing in a feature that presents users with something that’s deliberately designed to be as distracting and attention grabbing as possible during a time when they should have their undivided attention on driving is asking for trouble.
On that note, LED billboards run up along the side of roads should be illegal and at very least have dimmers to prevent them from blinding drivers at night.
There’s still Caterhams and Ginettas.
Although on second thoughts they’re probably not allowed in a country where the inhabitants can’t be trusted with a Kinder surprise egg.
Get an old Jeep 40s-2001 were prim- ya know what don’t get an old Jeep. I don’t want the competition.
The ads aside, nothing from the Stellantis family should be on your radar anyway
But I quite like the latest Maserati.
That’s a good example, considering its Ferrari/Lamborghini maintenance costs, to compare with Volkswagen’s Mercedes/BMW maintenance/repair costs.
If I could afford one I don’t think I’d be too worried about maintenance costs, it’s not a car I would buy with my head.
I was just pointing out that not everything Stellantis sells is a bland box on wheels.
I’m not saying they are bland boxes on wheels, I’m saying the company leadership is bullshit and goes in the wrong directions and the products they make are horrible and not mechanically sound
How hard up for money could they possibly be? It’s such an insane move.
I can deal with ad when watching TV or YouTube.
i can’t! i really hate ads, they’re so loud and obnoxious, they’re like jump scares every time they come on! ugh! this car would be like my idea of a nightmare!
I use ad breaks in vids to answer texts/emails or take a piss or whatever. Intrusive ads that take up entire pages on a site are the worst tho. Those can fuck off.
do you mute them or something? i don’t think i could focus on reading anything with that shit blaring in the background!
I just tune ads out. I got ADHD, so it’s really easy for me to get distracted and completely tune things out. It’s useful in some situations, but mostly sucks lmao.
Those are full page ads with audio. It’s amazing how you can disregard that.
The NCAP score for these should be -5, no way that is safe!
Turning everything you use into a fucking ads platform is peak capitalism. Burn it with fire.
everything you
useownConsumer already paid for the damn vehicle. At least market that ad-bullshit as the cheaper freemium rental version and offer a no ads purchase version… They are not at all thinking about the consumer, only about filling their ever growing pockets.
The person you are trying to call is unavailable. Please try again later.
Reason 2378 to never buy a Stellantis vehicle
Just Stellantis doing Stellantis things.
I would never buy a jeep anyways, but thanks for the warning,
I’m not buying Jeeps… But harder now.
Careful with ol Ted there, all his good points were accidental, dude bombed university offices because he heard a plane fly over in the woods.
Stellantis? More like Stale Anus
I just bought a Toyota and they locked a lot of features behind an app with a monthly fee, absolute fucking pricks. The whole auto industry is going to shit.
What things are subscription?
Seeing as cars and computers are increasingly shared platforms, where is the car-hacking community? As distinct from the car-optimizing or car-modding communities.
Modern cars, I think because of safety laws and “trade secrets”, can be quite a pain the reverse engineer. It’s notoriously difficult to even interface with any of the chips in any of the onboard computers in the first place, let alone reverse engineer what’s going on and modify it. On top of that some car companies, like Toyota, are starting to add HMACs to all the messages they send on the CAN bus, so even if you did figure out everything, unless you get the signing keys every message will be ignored. On top of that, it’ll void your warrant, which I know some people don’t care about, but for a new car that you are having to depend on, its another hurdle.
where is the car-hacking community?
In jail
“Hack the planet”
You wouldn’t download ecologically friendly things!?
What did they lock behind the paywall?
The main things that bother me are maps, remote start (which can be done from the keys but it’s a pain in the ass). When you start the vehicle a screen comes up that asks you to subscribe for maps, and then Android auto connects like 50% of the time and randomly disconnects when you are driving.
There’s a bunch of other little features that are mostly convenience things, but I bought the vehicle, and I understand they have to run some infrastructure but it’s not much and I could just connect through wifi or Bluetooth and they wouldn’t have to run any infra.
https://support.toyota.com/s/article/Subscription-Plans?language=en_US
Also, it’s $15 a month which is a rip off. If it was $20 a year, thats annoying, but it’s more tolerable. $15 a month to be able to use the maps that are built in is a crime.
The big ass screen is worthless unless I’m using Android auto.
I have remote start, locking doors and car info for free in the FordPass app, though I HAVE to use Android Auto for maps as the 2022 Escape SYNC does not have maps at all, which I am actually unbothered by. Android auto works very well on the display, though it has to be via cable, no w/less AA available.
I’d love to be able to even just see if the doors are locked without a monthly fee.
The USB c connection is on the passenger side of the screen in the top right corner, so doing wired Android auto is pretty annoying
Join and/or fund Right to Repair advocacy organizations people. For my fellow Canadians: check out CanRepair, they are currently registering members and will have their first ever AGM March 18
We need laws on how intrusive ads are allowed to be. Advertising is out of control. Personally, whenever I see an ad too many times, I make sure to avoid purchasing that item or anything from that company. You’re trying too hard to sell me junk.
Same here. Also if the add is : giving an horrible child candy / do they think i am stupid talking / ‘real’ examples
True. Also we need to regulated the spaces that the ads can occupie. Or the possibility that “sky is a billboard” might happen becomes too high

“You know all those fake games you keep seeing?! We turned it into a real one that you can actually play! Oh, maybe I can get this machine gun!”
Bro, stop. No. Also, fuck you advertisers.
“how intrusive” ?
We need laws to ban any sort of tracking, profile generation, etc.
Bring back contextual ads. If I’m on a gaming website show me a gaming ad ffs.
Ban advertising entirely.
Ok, honest question: In a world where all advertising is banned, how do I know who makes something I want/need?
Like, is a website you find in a search result an ad? Is putting something in your local Yellow Pages an ad?
Maybe we need to qualify “No advertising” with something?
No. If you are actively searching for something, and go to a specific place that sells that thing. It is not advertising, the active party is you not them.
The problem is when the active party is the ad-networks, the trackers, the junk pushers.
If I go to a review site, for say lawn mowers, and they say hey brand 1 is great, but brand 2 is better because of ‘reasons’; I am active, engaging in the process. If however, I then go to a site that is about tigers, and brand 3 pushes their ad to intrude on the tiger info…this (in my opinion) is a major intrusion into my private space.
Would you ban television commercials? Sponsored products unrelated to a YouTube video’s content?
I completely agree with you. So tired of pushed garbage ads. There’s just a gray area so the language of a hypothetical “law” would have to carefully considered.
Television ads are a grey area, they don’t tend to track you and follow you around in a creepy way.
Sponsored content, is in my opinion very similar to TV ads, the sponsor is the same for all viewer of the vid in a similar way to TV.
They didn’t track before the introduction of cable boxes with phone-home capabilities, at any rate.
Yes.
Ok, dishonest question 😜: In a world where all prostitution is banned, how do I know who will fuck me?
Like, is a website you find in a search result prostitution? Is putting something in the personals section an ad?
Maybe we need to qualify “No prostitution” with something?
/s
Maybe live in a country where prostitution isn’t banned?
Seriously asking, is there a country where advertising is banned?
Outdoor advert bans are a thing
Hear hear
But then line stops going up, or *shutters at the thought, it could go down
Cigarette advertising was banned in the US. It famously increased profit because they didn’t have to burn it all on advertising.
Advertising is like nuclear weapons. It’s bad that it exists, harms people around it, and is only needed because the opposition has it. If it disappeared, everyone would benefit, but no one wants to be the first.
Cigarettes don’t need advertising though to stay on your mind, nicotine does a pretty good job of that. I agree with you for things people need, or are addicted to, but there are a lot of things that need advertising to keep there growth.
Like car insurance is a necessity and a fixed market, you aren’t going to buy more insurance or buy it more frequently, so their advertising is mostly to maintain their current market position. If the insurance companies all stopped advertising, their profits would probably go up. But cars you can get people to buy more expensive cars more often and expand the market if you advertise to the people enough and convince them to upgrade. If all the car companies stopped advertising, then people wouldn’t see the need to upgrade unless their car is broken, so there would be fewer car sales, and the market would shrink.
The enemy of this infinite growth scheme called capitalism is satisfaction. If you don’t have a product like cigarettes that generate dissatisfaction from their absence, then you need to create that dissatisfaction with advertising.
Shudders. Shutters are what people used to have in the US to get through the storms. People thought they were cool so a trend spread. Now almost every house has fake ones. Look on the sides of your windows from outside, ever wonder why that shit was screwed in beside the windows?
Vandalize ads where safe to do so.
“Hi I’m here about your cars extended warranty…”
Wait until Musk gets permission to use their Neuralink chips world wide!
With the opposition he’s facing in the EU, no matter how safe it’ll be (lol), it’ll never be introduced.
