Back about a decade ago now, the USS Liberty ‘incident’ was a bugaboo of Alex Jones and many other right wing conspiracy theorist types…
…who were correct in that yes, that is a thing that happened, it was basically covered up for decades, and almost no one knew about back in the 00’s and 10’s, and that the Israeli government and AIPAC have a huge amount of influence over US politicians and political discourse generally…
… but were very incorrect in then just slap dashing it into their growing conspiracy centric view of the entire world, which very, very often actually was just anti-semitic generally, utterly oversimplifying and overnarrativizing their understanding of ‘how things actually work’ into insane nonsense.
Fast forward 10 years, and basically all the people that were really concerned about the USS Liberty attack, you know, anti-Israeli government/military… well now they are basically all ardent Trump supporters, they all love violent Israeli genocidal expansionist Zionism, but also somehow simultaneously think Trump is … anti-war or something?

It is indeed quite notable how much of a total 180 shift that is, amongst the right wing conspiracy theory types, and I think that is what they are referring to.
I don’t think they are saying that those (mostly liberals, progressives and leftists) who’ve been vocally opposed to the Israeli genocide of Gaza (and everything else its now grown into) in the past few years suddenly changed their opinions about that in the last few months.
I guess that’s also a possible interpretation.

He is exactly the kind of person that does these 180 flip flops and … either doesn’t remember he did, or has an elaborate nonsensical excuse/explanation.
I am unfortunately way, way too familiar with basically nearly every right wing conspiracy theory that’s existed in the last 40 years.
… I actually have Jewish cousins, and … yeah, basically since as long as I can remember, he’s made bigoted ‘jokes’ either behind their backs or occasionally even actually at family functions.
My dad is my archetype for MAGA people: an abusive alcoholic narcissist asshole with no friends, who is never wrong, proficient in gaslighting, life didn’t go the way he wanted it to, and it’s all the fault of whoever right wing AM radio/ Fox News/ insane facebook posts and shit tier ‘journalist’ grifters told him to be mad at in the last week.

My dad is nowhere near as bad, but I have to helplessly watch how he slides deeper and deeper into the whole magaverse bullshit and drags my mom with him, they used to be open minded and reasonable, well educated people but since they retired they’ve got nothing else to do but read shit on the Internet to be outraged about and watch fascist news. I try to have reasonable conversations with them when visiting, but it gets worse as they get older, like they are not full blown magats or fascists but they say how there’s pedophiles everywhere, communists are about to take over europe and climate change is just a story by some shadowy elite to scam governments and people, and are out to hurt the holy economy. The kicker is that life has gone very well for them, they’re struggling a little in retirement now since they failed to put any money aside other than their basic pensions, so there isn’t even a reason to be this upset. You might call it pearl clutching, but it’s not even that. My dad fled a communist country and built a good life from basically nothing for himself and our family, and now he rants about immigrants who are just trying to do the same. Anyway, also sorry for oversharing.

This argument around here is usually used to criticize pro-Palestinians for not falling in line with the DNC, with the idea being that they’re all MAGAs or Russian trolls who wanted to sow division inside the anti-Trump coalition and don’t actually care about Palestine. If that assumption was true, the number of people in online criticizing the US government’s support of Israel would go down significantly after the election and especially after Trump’s inauguration. Well, at least around here that didn’t happen, but liberal pseudo-Zionists really like to pretend it did because otherwise they’d have to admit they were wrong. Anyway what I’m trying to say is: It might be a good idea to specify that you’re talking about MAGA next time, because otherwise many people here will assume you’re talking about the anti-Zionist left as that’s the overwhelmingly more common version here.

Dude, I envy you. I’ve had to balk at the absurdity of this for months now. It’s less of a thing now, but it was really common back when trump was in his Rivera of the Middle East phase. The frequency of dunces being like “why are pro-Palestinians so quite hurr durr” and another guy coming and saying “becuz they’re trolls hurr durr” like an echo chamber only held up by sheer force of will was fucking ridiculous.
