For a brief time in the Seattle area you could actually run from cops and they couldn’t do shit besides go the speed limit and watch you drive off.

Those days are over now and cops are finally enforcing other laws… weird how that works.

In the world of push to start, do cops actually ask you to put your keys on the dash?

Hmmm. Hard to say. A cop pulled me over for “Operating a motor vehicle without her phone number”. Eventually, she agreed to only give me a DWS (Driving While Sexy). It feels like an abuse of power, but as she reminds me all the time, she’s the one with the gun…

I’ve been pulled over quite a bit and have never had a cop ask me to put my keys on the dash.

It’s never happened to me either. Maybe he’s experiencing some weird regional thing.

Cameras are definitely the main problem. To get away with any crime in the modern age, you probably need to plan for being caught on camera. Especially if you end up in front of a cop.

1: the first thing every cop says at a stop is “turn the engine off and put your key on the dash” if you haven’t done that by the time he gets to your window

I’ve been pulled over many times and have never experienced this.

Also, high speed chases are much more likely to end in the shooting death of the suspect. Which is why more progressive communities tend to bar cops from high speed chases.

If evading the cops is a life or death thing, doubt this would be effective. You’re not outrunning A cop, you’re outrunning the cops (collective).

Let them get to your window, grab them, and drive like a motherfucker. Its much harder for them to catch you if they can’t communicate back to other cops and coordinate.

You’re not outrunning the cops (plural), at least not for long. Especially not once you’ve physically assaulted one, they’re gonna be out for blood.

I don’t know why you need the first part. As you said, you’re running from THE cops, not the 1-4 in the cruiser. They have radios and helicopters and satellites and thermal cameras and license plate scanners and traffic cameras and informants and qualified immunity and stingrays and cooperation with other agencies.

And until they figure put an officer isn’t responding, that’s a head start where they aren’t really looking at all that.
