## Hey everyone We’re really sorry to say this, but lemm.ee [http://lemm.ee] will be shutting down on June 30, 2025. ### What you need to know As of now: - New user registrations are disabled - Creating new communities is disabled What you should do: - You can export your settings at https://lemm.ee/settings [https://lemm.ee/settings] to take them with you to another instance. - If you’re moving to another instance, consider adding a note to your lemm.ee [http://lemm.ee] profile with your new username. Your old profile will still be visible from other instances even after we go offline. - Alternatively, if you want to delete your lemm.ee [http://lemm.ee] profile, now is the best time to do it, so the deletion can federate out before we go offline. - If you’re one of the folks supporting us with a recurring donation, please remember to cancel it (Ko-Fi donations should have been cancelled automatically already). Our leftover funds are already enough to cover our bills for next month, so we can keep things running without any more support. Because of how Lemmy is built, everything posted on lemm.ee [http://lemm.ee] will still be accessible from other instances, even after we go offline. ## Why this is happening The key reason is that we just don’t have enough people on the admin team to keep the place running. Most of the admin team has stepped down, mostly due to burnout, and finding replacements hasn’t worked out. The sad reality is that while there are a lot of great people on Lemmy, there are also some who use the platform to attack others, stir up conflict, or actively try to undermine the project. Admins are volunteers who deal with the latter group on a constant basis, this takes a mental toll.       Is there a single instance that allows using apps, other than the api test instance? PieFed is a good idea for desktop, but the mobile website is cumbersome to use.

      I signed up with piefed.au several months ago now, but every time I try, I’m getting error 400 “alpha api not enabled”.

      What are the issues with python if anyone knows? Is it a bigger issue with scaling up or will it get significantly slower as they add more features? People mention how its bad but they just assume people know why.

        We use Python on the back end of a public-facing website with massive levels of traffic. There are some maintainability issues due to the dynamic nature of the language, duck typing can be tricky for similar reasons, but as long as devs are sensible and test things rigorously, performance is fine, and I’m reasonably sure we’re operating at a scale at least a couple orders of magnitude larger than all Lemmy instances combined. Also, it’s a mature, concise language with excellent libraries, so most non-exotic requirements can be met without too much difficulty.

        People mention how its bad but they just assume people know why.

        They don’t know why. I supect it’s because nothing works right if you do it wrong.

        You can assume a roughly 10-100x slowdown on pretty much everything. It also does not feature type safety, so while it is easier to code in it it is also easier to make mistakes. Other than that… Just a simple scripting language

      wasnt enough to save the instance, they were probably running as a skeleton crew ever since they asked the need ofr admin.

    I have mostly just lurked here and wanted to come out of my shell to say thank you, admins, for all your hard work on this instance. You did a great job running this instance and I’ll miss being the goblin hiding in the corner here.

      i heard most of them stepped down, and they did ask for admins months ago, around the time i got reddit banned. im guessing because there was no news it was a bad sign since.
