Weather dotcom has premium gatekeeping and Accuweather just kinda sucks
EDIT: i just remembered not everyone is ND and doesn’t get really super into every topic enough to care about things like meteorology :[
I use Weather Alert. It’s free, no ads, has a nice radar and good hourly, daily and week forecasts. Plus dependable severe weather alerts.
I use wX.
Whoa, that looks like one hell of an app.
Given the depth of information covered there is a steep learning curve if you seek to use the program in it’s entirety, help information is available and touched on below.
How well versed are you in meteorology? I’m a layman but I’m definitely interested in it enough that I’d prefer to get my reports from something other than “the weather rock” 🤣
I’m a geologist. I took a meteorology class for funsies back at university.
It’s also my responsibility to ensure the drill crew’s safety. If a lightning storm is rolling in, we need to drop the mast on the drill rig so it’s not the tallest metal object around. 💀
Windy.com is fun to play with.
Android there’s Flowx, Raindar II for basic but quick local radar, and Breezy Weather for a more traditional but open source option.
I use an app called windy and an open source weather app called weather forecast USA
I use the met office but they only do detailed coverage for the UK, they’ve still got other coverage outside the UK but it’s not as detailed
I go to the source for Australia. The Bureau of Meteorology
I mostly just look at the rain radar. Forecasts are little more than divination.
I just assume it’s good biking weather and am dismayed and late when it’s not.
I just ask ChatGPT. Now that NOAA has been gutted I figure it can guess as good as anyone.
Of course /s… relax
I still get good NOAA reports on HAM radio. Although it did go down for a few days recently for “upgrades” they said.
Plus with the energy usage of OpenAI etc, the LLMs can just say “tomorrow will be warmer” and only get more accurate every time! :)
(I hope my joke about climate doom and gloom carried across the internet okay! ♥️)
The weather rock.
Right now our weather rock is wet
checks the guide
That means it’s raining!
Rocks missing.
Better get in the hurricane bunker.
lol what’s this from
Oh its an ancient skit.
Badenweiler Wetterstation.
I know, it’s a bit niche 😄.

- WeatherWise
- Radarscope
I use the Bura app, which uses open-meteo.com as a source :)
It seems as accurate as others and is open-source, so from my quick look, no nagging or creepy tracking. :)
weather.gov (for the US)
Doesn’t have an app that I know of so I use my phone’s browser
hey that seems like a pretty straightforward option
wonder why it’s not more popular
I have my city bookmarked there, and the radar. Plus they have the best warnings. Not to mention that other sites use their data as well.
adding on to grue’s comment; john oliver put out a good episode that will shed some light on why:
wonder why it’s not more popular
Because AccuWeather’s lobbying efforts have resulted in NOAA being prohibited from competing with “value-added” private-sector weather services.
My guess is because it’s not a company. NOAA didn’t have to make money because it’s government.
Official government weather service: https://www.meteoswiss.admin.ch/
The app used to be amazing, but it got ruined by a recent UI redesign and is now quite tedious to use … the weather data is still great at least.
The default weather app on my phone. Or by just going outside. I only care to know if I should wear shorts, long pants, or a jacket depending on the temperature/if it is or may rain.
yea? i LOVE maps. i was hoping to just sit here and look at radars for the evening
OP, you and I might make good friends. I was a weather forecaster for a little while and then got a degree in GIS (fancy cartography). I LOVE maps and I LOVE weather.
This website has always been one of my favorites. Check out the weather data-> satellite options.
