I thought the admins were using the server to grill cheese sandwiches and some of the melted cheese dripped onto the motherboard or something.

for how people talked about it i thought “elevator gate” had to have been like Dawkins or some other creep being caught on tape groping someone in an elevator. not a woman simply explaining that propositions in elevators are creepy

I’m only 80 minutes into this but this is a devastating take down of Richard Dawkins, his collaborators, and their entire sphere of work.

This particular subject doesn’t matter to me that much, like I couldn’t care much less about some scum-of-the-earth dudes writing a book about why they think it’s bad that they’ve been rightfully scorned by the world.

However, as someone who watched a fair amount of Dawkins when I was at the age for that, I am eagerly anticipating that portion of the video.

I think the battle taking place here is shitbags claiming that they are “science” and that it is important to take down any notion that what they do is scientific or rational minded.

Yeah I agree, I think I’m feeling particularly disinterested because there’s a lot of damage science is actively taking right now, and so I am disinterested in hearing about these guys just whining when there’s active harm being done that far exceeds the scope of their complaints. It doesn’t mean it’s not important to undermine them, it just means… well, I don’t care so much, I suppose.

It presumes the audience already cares and the subsequent breakdown of how most of these figures have gone from supposed champions of science to either full on Christians or cranks that believe in their own weird non science does illustrate how this point was eventually reached and while im not all the way through does seem to be where all of this is going. What kind of reason to care would you give someone that doesnt already? The video itself strengthens the point anyway, these supposed scientists dont care either and/or have contributed to the degradation of science through their culture war obsession. I don’t know what you want here.

Eh, I mean… that’s all fine, I can see why that would make it important enough for people to care in general. It just doesn’t do it for me personally. I’m not even entirely disinterested though, I’m working my way through the video regardless.

That’s totally fair. I enjoyed it because it’s very satisfying to see Shaun dismantle each of their flimsy attempts at deflection and distortion and learn how intertwined all these figures are, but I wouldn’t say I came away from this video enlightened or anything. It just gives concrete evidence for what you could already figure out by looking at the cover of the book: these are a bunch of deeply unserious and bigoted people who only really care about advancing their own grifts, giving the air of scientific legitimacy to their bigotry, and whining about how they got “cancelled.” This video could be useful to mine for specific takedowns if you know someone who follows one of the (seemingly) more respectable people among them and want to try to guide that person away from this path, or if you habitually get into internet arguments and need ammunition to own someone. But beyond that, it’s mostly 4 hours of schadenfreude.

I respect the work ethic. But Its very hard for me to watch a 4h vid unless I got a project im working on (so I can run the vid in the back while working). Plus it better be a real good vid (which to be fair is a good chance with Shaun)

This one is worth it if you want a takedown of Richard Dawkins and his work since he moved on from his new atheist movement, as well as the people around him.

It’s also a takedown of Shaun’s own teenage self who he admits previously really liked Dawkins.

He actually goes into the background of dozens of different people who are collectively destroying science and also most of whom are tied to epstein, it’s mostly a teardown of the people in the book rather than the rags they wrote for this book
