They all look so devilishly happy 😈

I get my US news mostly from lemmy and there’s been a definite uptick of Epstein files info articles since maybe 2 days ago; what actually happened?

    edit: just found this article:

A trove of more than 20,000 of the late sex trafficker’s papers were released Wednesday by the House Oversight Committee investigating Epstein’s crimes.

But how? And why now (and not much earlier)? Is this part of the administration not dominated by Republicans?

Hell, I live in the States and I haven’t looked into it, but I’m assuming it was from the elected official who was denied swearing in for almost 2 months because Johnson was being a little bitch about everything. With her vote, they had the numbers to force this to happen.

Because the Democrats folded on the budget impasse which will likely result in ten of millions losing healthcare and they need a distraction.

AFAIK this particular set of emails have come straight from the Epstein estate and weren’t part of the files the GOP are still trying to prevent being released. I don’t think we know the exact details of when the estate passed them over to the House Oversight Committee or why they decided to release them now.

These memes are way too coordinated to be organic. One minute we’re complaining about gun control, then Trump, then Senate Democrats caving, then back to the Epstein list. Both the internet and the news focus on one topic before shifting to the next. Think its time to get off the internet and touch grass.

edit: People responding are missing the point. News agencies clearly decide what to pay attention to and what to ignore. The internet is feeling the same way these days.

The Epstein Files have been a topic for a few months (years?) now. It isn’t entirely unreasonable for the cartoon author to sketch up a Thanksgiving table themed one and hold on to it and release it in November.

Dunno. Internet is so spoiled and oversaturated nowadays that we can expect anything from it. The only strange thing is that, despite how bad Trump is shown in media and acts in real life, he is still a president. For me he looks more like a puppet that plays in a weird act of shadow government.
