I’ve never heard the left do that. That’s pretty much always been liberals. Unless you mean ridicule the right for claiming to not be bootlickers.

Liberals are to the left of the US Overton Window but they are not “The Left” nor do they have Leftist beliefs or support Left Wing policies. And pushing the fallacy that they are the left benefits the two major political parties in the US (which are both right wing) but literally no one else.
