Apologies for modifying the title. The live page has terrible article titles.
The government-run Lebanese Civil Defence emergency service says the five workers were waiting in a makeshift centre in a church hall in the southern town of Derdghaiya when it was hit by an Israeli air strike. We’ve spoken to Father Maurice Khoury, head of the St George’sCatholic parish church there, who says those killed were “a model for humanity and chivalry. They sacrificed their lives for the wellbeing of others”.
Per other linked articles, Israel seems to claim they killed two Hezbollah members, but I haven’t found a single article that contains all the information in one place.
This post from that other place has a purported picture of the damaged church.
The IDF used the steeple as a reference and the Christians are being slowly squeezed out of Israel too.
The link doesn’t work and a web search turns up no reporting of a Catholic church bombed recently in Lebanon by Israel.
Could the many commenters who must have read the BBC article before it was taken down please let us know more?
It’s still there, just further down the page.
Earlier we reported on the deaths of five health workers in an Israeli strike in Derdghaiya, southern Lebanon last night.
Father Maurice adds that parishioners and villagers tell him there was no military presence on church grounds, and no gunmen in the vicinity. He says he doesn’t know how the health workers “would have a target on their backs?"
Father Maurice, who left the village on 22 September right before the Israeli escalation, says the health workers killed were looking after the 200-400 displaced people seeking shelter there.
“The church’s two halls were filled with IDPs [international displaced persons]. The Civil Defense used to come with food, water and aid. They were the only one supplying aid to the IDPs,” Father Maurice tells us.
He says one of those who was killed was “the pinnacle of generosity” while another “was a member of my parish. He was my right-hand man. He strived to provide a dignified life for his wife and three daughters. What wrong did they do?”
Israel says it only attacks military targets and the town was in an area which the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) had warned people to leave.
The BBC has approached the IDF for comment.
With additional reporting by Joanna Majzoub.
As of this moment it still gives me a 404.
That’s weird, still works for me.
If they can’t bomb Irish defense soldiers they’ll get the next best thing.
Is this a reference to the IDF’s murder of Irish peacekeeper Dermot McLaughlin in 1987, or something else?
deleted by creator
You are correct. That’s the reference I meant.
ETA: the fact there are multiple incidents of the IDF going after Irish soldiers is kinda crazy.
It is deleted; what did it say?
Oh weird. The deleted comment just made counter assumption that I was referencing a recent incident where IDF forces got dangerously close to a battalion of Irish forces working under the UN to protect the Southern Lebanon border.
My reply to the deleted comment was me confirming that was the incident I was referring to originally.
Can’t wait for this to show up on CBN or the 700 club. Sike they <=3 ride isreal harder than biden.

It’s the frickin’ BBC, you useless bot.
Hezbollah? How does that even make sense?
When they slaughter civillians they always make these claims. Instead of calling out their lies, the allies of Israel instead put the burden of proof of innocence on the victims, and by the time the lie gets exposed fully, Israel moved on to have committed a dozen more massacres.
Irish Catholics are gonna start blowing up synagogues.
Israel gonna go through some troubles.
Oh no! Not the Catholic Church! But those assholes would never attack…
…List of all Catholic Churches near by…
What I’m trying to say is that they should call before they demolish. There could be people inside! And also, I live far from one and I gotta tell you, not hearing the stupid 🔔 bell every hour is fantastic. It’s like no Jehovah weekends!
But unfortunately the demo has to come with war and all the fear stuff. As a total cynic I still am human and I wish all you people out there in war time, pace. If you are causing war, look around you and ask yourself if that is good.
All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others.
The Pope?
Believe it or not, also Hamas.
I’ve seen people on Lemmy call the Pope a Russian asset, and they didn’t appear to be joking.
I mean he is also always armed. He had the Papal can(n)on on him all the time.
Oops
It was
HamasHezbollah.
If they kill males 18-60 Israel calls them Hamas or Hezbollah. Even if they are workers in a catholic church.
They learned it from us. Bush’s War on Peace. Anyone within X feet of a drone strike or bombing was auto designated an “Enemy Combatant”
The funny thing is the USA actually did distinguish it as “civilian collateral” in their internal reports, which I believe they got mad at Assange for leaking the worst ones.
I kinda doubt Israel is documenting women and children as non combatants when they clearly want everyone dead.
Uhhh. I still think that was US learning from Israel… Israel doing this shit ain’t new. Ask Rachel Corrie.
When you’re a hammer everything looks like a nail.
Bold of you to assume that they have a lower cut off at 18
English cutoff is at 18.
There is no cutoff in Hebrew.
“government-run Lebanese”
They’re trying so hard to repeat the “Hamas run” prefix that they used to discredit and diminish victims of israels genocide in Gaza.
There’s an “editorial complaints” link at the bottom of BBC news website.
That’s the opposite. They are saying government run to distinguish them from Hezbollah
When Israelis report deaths the BBC don’t say the “government run” [agency]. It’s othering language.
The Lebanese government isn’t an enemy to Israel so I don’t see any propaganda reason for them to do it, the writer probably just wrote it that way without an ulterior motive imo
