It’s a one day course to take, then once you pass the exam it’s about 6 months to get it approved, then you can just walk into Canadian Tire and then walk out with a rifle.
You have to finish a licensed class and pass the tests they give you, then you apply to the government and wait about a month to get your PAL in the mail assuming you pass the background checks.
For my pal and my father’s it was about 4-8months to get it approved, but my father did mess up his photo and had to redo the application

I brought up this exact topic on another platform (that the USA wants Canada for its resources include fresh water), and many US responders laughed like it was the stupidest thing I could have concocted. I explained that I didn’t come up with it it has been an ongoing thing since the 60s where US wanted a trench from Canada to the USA as a water feed, etc. People already believed their own conclusion and citing sources didn’t change their mind on Trumps ulterior motive.
It has been a concern for a long time that as drought bites in the USA and the Arctic becomes a strategic waterway, the USA will want what Canada has in its lakes, its coasts, its farmable land and its other natural resources. It’s just that Trump is accelerating the process, trying to get it done before Canada has a chance to prepare any resistance, and before many Canadians twig what’s going on. There’s MANY things I dislike about Trudeau. I’ve been pretty impressed with his fast and appropriate responses on these issues. I’m so tired of people not taking the insanity seriously.
He’s handled basically every crisis well. It’s really easy to forget that. Remember his covid updates at the start of it? We watched those every day. I’m in Ottawa and with the Convoy every level of government massively failed, but he at least did the unpopular thing and shut that shit down. Last Trump presidency he dealt with NAFTA well.
It’s really easy to dump on him, he’s done a poor job fiscally, housing policy was awful, immigration policy did not account for multiple levels of governance and support needed… but you can’t say he didn’t handle the most critical situations well.
