Lol nothing says we are afraid of the working class like banning subreddits on suppressed news they don’t want us to see. I came here bc I got a warning on my account for liking a comment that said “Luigi”. My alt account got banned for sharing the DOGE email list that is public info. Fuck Reddit. I’m done.
Have you seen reddits stock lately? esp. Today? RDDT
Meanwhile PoliticalCompassMemes and the 4chan subreddit stays up
Welcome refugees, the waters warm and we’ve got the kettle on for a cuppa
Yep. I am done with Reddit too. Just deleted my account after this bullshit.
Another day, another reason to be happy we’re here instead of there.
P.S. I’ve been here since November and I’ve definitely seen an increase in users since then.
I don’t appreciate the Luigi praise or the DOGE leaks, either, but I recognize that I’m in the minority on Lemmy (lol) & idk to a certain extent I respect freedom of speech. The DOGE email leak is public info, in that it was leaked to the public…
In any case, we’re all in agreement: R!ddit deserves to die. Just because they were the first runaway success public forum doesn’t mean they own it forever. Especially when they shit the bed, suppress freedom of speech, kill 3rd party apps, & farm out user data for AI scraping.
Well… that’s just going to be most American sites going forward. That’s why ultimately platforms like Lemmy are so important. What a lot of people here in the States don’t realize is that this is a war on information.
Banned 3 years ago
Reddit currently has a beastiality sub. They don’t allow real images obviously but people post hentai and fish for more. In the comments, they give each other advice/describe their activities.
Reddit doesn’t care.
I’m kind of surprised r/50501 hasn’t been banned yet for inciting violence…
they are probably flagged, on thin ice. but conservative probably wont even touch the sub, because the cons will just flood other subs and cry about it.
Why would they? Ineffectual protests with disparate, unclear goals. More useful to keep them so there’s at least a harmless resistance to redirect energy toward.
What do you mean? Their goals are clear.
I couldn’t find that immediately on their site but Wikipedia told me it’s:
- Impeachment of Donald Trump and removal from office[1]
- Investigation into Elon Musk, DOGEand Trump appointees[1]
- Reinstatement of rescinded federal DEI initiatives[1]
- Protection of LGBTQ rights in the United States
- Protection of minorities and minority rights
- Reinstatement of Military aid to Ukraine[2]
- Lifting of tariffs against Canada and Mexico[2]
Which imo is an unrealistic bucket of goals, not a unified call to action
They may be unrealistic but that says more about this administration than it does about the protests. That’s pretty basic shit imo
Agreed. And I want groups like this to succeed. But we need a single, easily digestible message that can encompass all of these issues under one roof. That issue, imo, is wealth inequality. But now it all comes down to phrasing. It’s an issue that isn’t hard to get people on board with if, and only if, we are careful with messaging and branding. I wish I was joking, but that’s the world we live in. Not the one where I demand everything, get nothing, and keep being frustrated that it never changes. It’s time to adapt or continue the cycle of losing.
I don’t think phrasing is the problem. I think the problem is a lack of leaders willing to stand behind it. Democrats are trying to pander to rich people while simultaneously tapping into the anger at rich people and that just comes off as disingenuous at best. I think voters will turn out if we give them a reason to. I think Democrats know that too and that’s why they fight harder to stop progressives from gaining influence than they do to curb the existing influence of the rich.
It sounds like they are against the current administration. These are all of the things that were negative impacted by them.
Ok but this is the problem I think occupy wall street had. They were protesting the right people, getting attention, but consistently the messaging was vaguely gestures the system, Wall Street, bankers. We can speculate why that messaging wasn’t clear or didn’t get out, but we have an opportunity right now to correct that mistake.
So what do you suggest the correct message should be for 50501?
Income inequality in whatever the most palatable form is for the target audience who needs to hear it. That’s it. But I’m clearly not convincing you here - I’m just some rando idiot who sees a problem. I would gladly have an adult in the room give a better answer. In lieu of that, this is the best I’ve got for you. I’d love to have a space to discuss these things, I think actionable items like this are missing from current discourse here. Maybe it’s the format idk
Don’t worry, they’ll be on the chopping block. But the good thing is the group is everywhere. They are on Substack, as well as here on this app. But they are a very small group, and they are aware that they’ll be next so they posted on Reddit to everyone that they exist on Lemmy which is how I got introduced to this app.
Getting banned by reddit for posting rather innocuous comment is probably a good thing. Its UI is garbage anyway.
r/politics also needs to be banned.
For anyone that still has a reddit account, if you have any good community subreddits, tell them to relocate to Lemmy :)
Dont mind me just slowly transitioning over to Lemmy
Reddit says they care about freedom of speech and liberal views. I realized a long time ago that their view of liberalism is to allow people who follow their narrative and ban people who don’t.
care about freedom of speech
So did musk when he bought twitter.
Companies don’t care about your rights. They care about your money.
