Reddit full bore banned me for saying “I should have a legal right to punch nazis” and declined my appeal.
Reddit is unironically nazi aligned and that’s not a joke it’s terrifying.
Reddit is aligned with the corporate overlords of the US, which are nazi aligned.
But… but… Won’t someone think of the poor innocent nazis???
(I got a warning for pretty much the same reason and decided not to hang around until I got a full ban.)
Most people agree punching nazis is fine, very few people agree on who is and isn’t a nazi.
It is precisely because useful clueless idiots are constantly being classified as nazis that no one is taking accusations of actual nazis seriously. Within society the meaning of the word has degraded to “mean people I don’t like”.
Within society the meaning of the word has degraded to “mean people I don’t like”.
I’ve been hearing this for years, and yet, literal neo-nazis are running the us government now. But go ahead and keep using the anti-woke rhetoric lol.
Exactly! Literal nazis in government, calling them out does nothing! Very few people are taking it seriously.
Nazis thrive on diluting language—twisting words like “freedom” and “patriotism” to serve their agenda. Ironically, the same thing happens when “Nazi” gets thrown around carelessly. Mislabeling people weakens the term, but so does refusing to acknowledge real extremists. Precision matters—both in calling out threats and in resisting linguistic manipulation.
what a cop out. there’s no functional difference between an idiot that works to advance nazi ideologies and the same but they have a swastika tattoo on their neck. to resist fascism means to confront ALL fascists. it’s not about disagreement or people you dont like, most people are using ur-fascism as their default definition and umberto eco has a fucking 14 point checklist we’re using. to act like it’s so arbitrary is completely out of touch.
Useful idiots are working against their own interests, while hard, it is possible to reason with them. A self-conscious nazi is a nazi through and through.
I haven’t been full banned yet but have grown tired of the amazing levels of stupidity. I caught a temp ban for incivility for writing “Your mother should have gone through with her Planned Parenthood appointment.”
To be fair, that’s kinda deserved. You could experience the same here.
There are plenty of other reasons to hate on Reddit, but acting in a fairly civil manner should be expected.
Glad to have you here though! 😊
Banning people who aren’t “safe spacey enough” is fucking stupid.
People can be abrasive. People can be mean. People will absolutely take your shit if you let them.
Hiding from them in a bubble doesn’t make them disappear (and shockingly sometimes they have points to make).
Hmm…
So your argument is that we potentially lose valuable insight?
I agree in principle, but it is hard to balance.
Because without a certain amount of civility we potentially lose the voice of minorities and oppressed groups of people.
In a free democratic country you of course should be legally allowed to be abrasive and say mean hurtful things.
How would you balance/solve this dilemma on a social network? The same way as the law?
I am a bit torn here
Not very civil of you dear…
Tbh you can catch bans for that here but beauty of fediverse is that power tripping mods have limited ability to ban you fedi wide so freedom enjoyer’s just go do their discourse on other sub’s and servers
I find that answer amazing and I will adopt it from now on to all the orange guy followers, cheers
Go forth with my blessings.
Watch this: Luigi is a hero
Just made an account here ten minutes ago. The format feels weird but it’s nice to be able to continue talking like sensible people without getting banned for it. Feels good, man.
If you used to use the Apollo app for Reddit then I strongly recommend Transit. It looks and feels a lot like Apollo, but for Lemmy.
And for former Relay users, Summit will feel pretty familiar.
Infinity -> Eternity
If it’s any help, I use the sync app on android. I also used sync for reddit prior to the API thing which finally made me leave, so my experience is pretty much the same in terms of format. I agree it can feel weird in a browser but there’s a bunch of good mobile apps that might feel more familiar.
Just FYI the dev abandoned the app and core features still break when the new instance updates take place. Not to mention:
Tap for spoiler
They never fixed their spoiler markdowns.
Ah, didn’t realise it had been abandoned. Shame, I’ve been using it a while, and I used the reddit version up until the API thing. I guess I can understand the dev becoming frustrated with a lot of work for a small audience.
Happy you could join! You’ll find that not only are bans much more reasonable, but conversations are frequently downright pleasant. Aditionally, there are communities built just for calling out mods that abuse power or are heavily biased. The system here is working much better from a user perspective.
I like it when people argue, but it’s like constructive arguments where both are making good points
Welcome!
Check out lemmyapps.com for different apps and webUIs. There is even sm old reddit style clone like old.lemmy.world for example.
No algorithm!
I will say, DO NOT use Sync or Boost, both are abandoned. Voyager is FOSS and adapts to updates.
I’ve been using using Sync since it was Sync for Reddit and the developer is known for flurries of updates followed by radio silence. So it’s not unusual for him. It is closed source so if he ever disappears forever it will probably eventually break. But it’s a great app.
I’ve read that elsewhere too, but he never took over a year up update. I think this was too much work for not enough pay.
Voyager doesn’t allow users on dbzer0 which is such a disappointment.
I imagine someone would just need to add them to the list on GitHub and push the update?
I am out of the loop. What does this mean?
Dbzer0 is the instance that I’m on, just like you’re on lemmy.world.
Some apps allow people to sign in on them, but only for certain servers.
I just checked, and while it isn’t in the new account list, it is in the login list in Voyager. And, also, you can just type any url into the login form in Voyager if the server isn’t listed.
That’s awesome! I tried doing that and it went to trying to sign me up for a lem.ee account, which was annoying.
Is that an omission by choice or just something they haven’t added yet?
Is it like a whitelist or a blacklist scenario?
Damn was using Sync
The Voyager app is almost exactly like Apollo was before Reddit shut it down. There are others you can try out too and Lemmy will look and function however you want it to.
i’m also new here and i am looking for a specific voyager setting and am gonna ask here to see if anyone can help
is there a way to turn the left->right swipe action into a “back” button? on apollo i was able to turn off all swipe actions in that direction and replace it with a back feature, and that’s also the default functionality of that swipe on bluesky. I keep getting tripped up having to reach up to the back button but i can’t find a setting for that in voyager yet
There is a gestures category in the settings.
You can ask Voyager questions here and the developer can add stuff if you think of something.
https://lemmy.world/c/voyagerapp
aeharding is the developer.
.world mods would be very upset if we didn’t bully them into submission 😔
where can I learn more about .world lore

Having not been using this place as regularly for the last couple of weeks, it definitely looks like there’s more upvotes on posts now in general compared to when I started up here about two months ago. Even just before this latest Reddit fuck up, it looks a lot to me like there’s been a steady influx lately. Like suddenly noticing that the grass has got longer.
Oh yeah, I’ve only been on Lemmy a few months but I’ve noticed it. I was one baby face emoji (is that just a Voyager thing?) in a sea of old accounts, but recently I’ve been seeing more and more of those baby emojis
I think it is just a Voyager thing, on Thunder I see a pink name & cake if a user joined today
When I made my Lemmy account (the day reddit put a paywall on the API) most posts didn’t even have comments (sorting by hot/popular). And it would be common to run out of new posts after a bit of scrolling. Now it looks about the same level of activity as reddit 10-something years ago.
It feels good not seeing repeated comments, everyones actually reading before saying stuff
I just came over from Reddit. I stepped back after the API debacle but didn’t switch to Lemmy until this week when they threatened me for upvoting something “violent” (honestly, no idea what it could have been).
Anyway, I want to agree with your sentiment. Remember Reddit before they started messing with the upvotes? Top posts would have 1k-2k upvotes and outstanding insanely popular posts would break like 7k.
On Lemmy, I scan the comments and I easily can see real people talking. I usually have to scan a long time on Reddit to find real people and not bots recycling comments. It makes me wonder how many real humans are commenting over there.
Glad there’s humans here.
Welcome back!
Haha thanks! I’ve been lurking a fair amount. Just a little more distracted currently.
I’m an exodusee as well, just a minnow at this point.
I just got sick of the right wing bullshit, the censorship, the shills, the morons, the bootlickers…
Hello all
Right here with you. Posted a brief goodbye on my sub and jumped over here. Luigi.
That was one of the last straws, not being able to say Luigi.
The bots! They were getting really bad.
Oh, i approved your application a couple of hours ago. Hello! Welcome to lemmy and dbzer0. I hope you like it here :)
Dragon ball zero?
Divisions by zero x) but we do call db0 “dragon ball zero” in the matrix chat, lol
Lol ok. Thanks now I can say in quietly in my head and not feel stupid lol
welcome in! insert obligatory ‚dozens of us‘ meme here.
Thank you!
Where is the door in case I get scared
The door is located after you click your username in the upper-right corner, and choose “Settings” from the drop-down. Scroll to the bottom of the page. On the left, in red, is a button to delete your account.
I’m not sure what really happens after that, though - I’ve never gone out that door. IIRC a deletion can take time, since various servers have to sync that information.
-Takes a bong hit-
So in a way, a recently-deleted account continues to exist across the Fediverse for a while. It is temporarily trapped to this plane of existence, until it can complete its final mission (deleting itself) across every corner of its known Fediverse. Then, and only then, can an account truly experience deletion.
-Passes to the left-
Accepts pass, bogarts
I’m glad I took a hit literally directly before reading this.
Welcome! Glad you made it over. Any way I can clear thing up or make it more smooth?
Coke and a ciggie and I’ll be right as rain
Welcome, it’s nice to have you!
;_; I can’t see any kitty pic
Ty, ty. No talking about pets without paying the pic tax. One back for you.
Such a sweet kitty! Looks ready to fuck up some decorations tho!
She does look concerned, I’ll give you that!
I shall also pay the tax:
Ohhh, such a relaxed bun. Very much at odds with how violent and energetic I’m sure they actually are.
That scene from the Holy Grail is pretty much spot on.
This is her relaxed after going for my jugular
nobody knows what that thread was. Nice post
Ok, remove all military bases from those countries and expel all American soldiers and diplomats. No more sharing intelligence with the u.s, they’re compromised anyways
Feels like they promote lemmy the same way microsoft promotes linux
Basically yes. The alternatives passively become better simply because of the mainstream option becoming worse over time. I think it’s still going too slowly in general but I’m not complaining, better slow than not at all.
Better slow than too fast too. Lemmy feels like a nice fairly small community. I’m not sure that’ll continue once it’s the size of Reddit. We’ll get more content and niche communities will be better served though, so there’s pros and cons.
Once you hit a certain size you become a tempting target for bots, spammers and trolls. Managing that is going to be a challenge.
i think the most realistic way will be to examine unusual patterns in the IP addresses used for the accounts.
That’s benefit of being built out of local communities!
There’s instances where users only interact with each other and not the larger Fediverse/lemmyverse.
Linux isn’t just getting better in comparison because Windows got worse.
Linux is so much better now than just 10 years ago, it’s absolutely incredible.
Not quite… It’s easiest to game on Windows still. I’d love to move to Linux, though. But, alas, this year is not your year still. Crucify me if you wish, but this is the truth. So say a simple gamer that knows more than you do if you’re peddling Linux as the best option in early 2025.
What have you been trying to run? I am honestly baffled at the linux gaming possibilities, even outside of Steam. I mean even Star Citizen “runs” on linux. (lol)
That depends on what games you play. The steamdeck proves that it’s possible to game on Linux.
I can sweat TF|2 what more could I need.
I’ve switched to main linux last week, for now with a windows dualboot for games that have issues. Honestly a good option if you just don’t like windows or where it’s heading. Depending on what you play going 100% linux isn’t viable though (but also if you’re not playing any multiplayer games it is).
Rebooting is so fast these days that switching OS isn’t a big problem, and I’m surprised just how well proton is working. I’ve somehow had more problems with the EA launcher trying to play nfs unbound on windows than on linux (it just worked with no issues, on windows it wouldn’t launch if I don’t close the ea launcher first).
We’re hereeeee! Also Luigi is a national treasure.
Luigi!
Banned for supporting Super Mario characters.
I’m pretty sure OP posted the wrong image.
Me?
Should there be an image or a link to one? I’m wondering if there’s some kind of mbin compatibility issues with some posts (or some other shenanigans). Nothing jumps out in browser dev tools, but I’ve seen a lot of posts that are nothing but a non-clickable title for me. Thanks!
Yes, this post should link to/display https://i.imgur.com/Mn9CPSZ.png
Ok. Thank you. I’ll go hunting to see if there’s already a PR or issue about it. Thanks!
We will not. Lemmy is far too inaccessible for an average user. I would say multiple servers would throw them off, but they won’t get that far. They will give up the moment they see there is no “Lemmy” on google play, but multiple launchers you can use.
Just use the web version people. Progressive web apps for the win. Didn’t even look to an app
Lemmy is seeing a sustained order of magnitude jump in sign-ups over the last two weeks. People complain that it is too difficult to understand (although there are now good guides pinned on r/lemmy) until they realise it is time to actual do something and it all goes (relatively) smoothly after that.
Gonna? My fellow user of Linux, it’s already happening.
