Place hot, ceiling trap heat, no ceiling, less heat.
The ceiling can also keep the heat from the sun out, and it will keep the rain away, which is common in hot places. On average, I think having a ceiling will win out
There’s likely not much rain where this elephant is at. I’d guess the savanna where there’s 6 month dry spells between rains.
And if you need roof during rainy times, I assume they go with a temporary thatched roof.
I’m no elephantologist, but I’m pretty sure Indian elephants definitely get to experience the rainy season.
And the rainy season in India gets VERY rainy indeed. As in “don’t bother to flush, the rain will get it” rainy.
A nice high fabric ceiling would be great.
