Not that old. Juul isn’t even that old. When I used vaping to quit smoking before stopping both, you had to have a basic understanding of electronics for mechanical and box mods to make coils and such. Tanks weren’t that great at that point so I used a drip tip which I did actually enjoy at the time. I recognize this might sound like being like hipster or something, but its crazy seeing where vaping is now.

Damn. Guess its been longer than I thought. Cause juul didn’t become a thing until after I had stopped. I remember other early vapes tobacco companies were trying to break in with but they were disgusting and the flavors didn’t even come close to as good as what others had been already been making.

I remember it being big news in the vaping world when walmart started carrying vapes. I went out and bought some awful eGo pen and the world’s worst tasting juice in 2.4% nicotine. I managed to get through the little 20ml bottle of sour apple but the java flavor was so awful it remained my backup ‘it’s this or withdrawals’ juice for the better part of a decade. I think I picked withdrawals most of the time.

I guess I was lucky in that regard. There was a shop near me that had a whole bunch of bottles out that you could try before buying.

I remember patty-cake games being super popular in elementary school, and it switched to hacky sack games in late middle school through high school. I think the graph is accurate.

There are definitely patty cake cool bumps when you become a parent of a toddler and a grandparent of a toddler. In those moments your coolness is off the chart.

If a 100 yo is still living alone he is metal as fuck. If a 100yo is breathing he is already cool, anything they do is already a win

Depends if they’re just wasting away alone or still active and healthy.

There’s nothing cool about having to live alone because the person you been married to for 50+ years died and you can’t bring yourself to meet soemone else out of heartache, even after 10 or 20 years.

It is pretty cool though if you do manage to meet someone else, when you’re 90 and now you’re popping viagra like candy.

I’m 62. I retired in January. In February, my 30-year marriage ended. I’m living alone for the first time in decades, and I never really did it very long before (a few years in my late 20s. It’s very strange. at this age.

Wow—that is a lot of major life events crammed into 2025. Be nice to yourself. Often.

Thanks, I appreciate that. I’m not really enjoying 2025 so far (I’ll just mention that I’m pretty far left leaning as well, so you can understand that country/world events are stressful).

We had planned on selling our house in CA and moving to WA. Now my wife has gone to NM to live with our son, and I’m getting ready to sell the CA house so we can each buy one. I’ve decided to stay in the same area of CA (where I grew up, where all my friends are), which means my house will be a small condo since prices here are super high. So that’s adding to the stress, but compared to the marriage ending thing it feels more minor.

I know things will settle out, but it’s been hard to take.

That half-pipe in the graph looks very tempting. I can’t wait until I’m 80 so I can be a cool skateboarder again.

Is drinking age not a big thing in other countries? In the US there would be a drop from 19/20 birthdays and a spike at 21 that drops down again for 22.

Drinking age is 18 in most of the world (with 16 also applying some places). Additionally, my impression is that it’s not as big a deal for 16-17 year olds to get ahold of alcohol in other places.

Where I’m from, the drinking age is 18, but it’s not uncommon or a big deal for people to get some beer or drinks for their 17th birthday party.

I think it’s a type of vape, but it was popular a while ago and I haven’t heard much since. Maybe this is an old meme?

Edit: quick search with an AI result appearing to pull from a pdf from a site against kids getting tobacco: JUUL’s popularity peaked in late 2018 and early 2019, reaching over 70% of the US e-cigarette market. Since then, its market share has declined, falling to 42% by July 2020 and 36% by March 2022.
