It was a “rubber” bullet, but still.

I think it’s because downtown LA had a curfew. But that’s kinda bullshit because where else would this person go if she came home after working a night shift? Sleeping outside would also break curfew

I used to live right by the un and my block was always closed 2ce a year. Security wouldn’t let me in to get home and I had to call the doorman to come and vouch for me. No one shot me but they were dicks.

Person who took this video is an actual hero. I don’t want to imagine what could have happened to that woman without them.

Also: don’t make the mistake of looking at the replies to this on Twitter. I forgot just how bad it was, but nearly every top reply is by verified accounts trying to justify this somehow. It’s actually insane to me the complete lack of empathy these people show - past party lines and political differences, isn’t this obviously a bad thing that shouldn’t have happened?

It’s a Nazi bar. Don’t expect reasonable posts from Nazi’s. There is no cross party lines with them.

I abandoned Twitter for Mastodon a few months after Musk bought Twitter. I figured I’d keep the account around to DM people who there, just in case my need to do so arose. Then I kinda forgot about it. Cut to a few months ago I sent a message to someone on a different service. I knew they were doing a project, but I politely asked them “hey, do you have the interest and time to do xyz?”

They said “I’m sorry, I’d normally love to, I’m just really busy right now and don’t have the time; you probably know I’m doing ABC myself.” And that was legit. But they added “Also, you should know I generally don’t work with people who have Twitter accounts anyway, for future reference.”

Initially I was “But wait, I don’t USE it…” But I took a few minutes to think about it. I mean, he wasn’t wrong. I DID have an account at the Nazi bar… And I don’t use it. It just lends my name to the service for no benefit to me. And that’s why I decided to download my data and delete my account. Sometimes calling people out (in a helpful way,) can be a positive.

And that, dear reader, not necessarily the person I’m replying to but you reading this, is now me reminding you that you can delete your Twitter account and stop supporting the Nazi bar.

That’s what I wanted to leave here as well.

The coloured girl immediately overcome her fear, crossed the street very aware of her surroundings and defended that shot girl.

She observed the situation, decided to put herself into danger to assist this foreigner. Such a strong and lovely human beeing 💪.

I leave her my deepest respect. Whish I could give her a huge hug as a thanks.

Stories like this are why despise Biden and Obama so much. Both enthusiastically armed the police while pretending to support change and helped give them this sense of invincibility, and both had the power to make real change in policing but cared more about being reelected than doing the right thing.

Despite Obama’s “hope and change” promises the first time around, they were both status quo presidents who needed to ensure the dominance of the state above all else.

But don’t you wish we had status quo now? I could go for a little stability and respect with a side of human rights and investment in the future

          a side of human rights

You mean like expanding the United States’ illegal drone assassination program?

That status quo comfort you’re yearning for is exactly what lead us here in the first place.

That stays quo was built on incredible amounts of violence inflicted on the global south, and now the imperial boomerang is coming back around.

So no, I don’t wish we had ‘a bit of that status quo’.

Ah yes love that stability built on the sounds of millions of broken backs it was built upon and the silent screams of the drowning poor. Stings like respect for human life and investment for the rich should.

Status quo was just ignoring the pain of those that had to be crushed beneath to give the false sense of everything remaining the same for the last 20 years.
I’m not sad to see it go just mad with what is replacing it.

That’s because these things do not happen in a vacuum, and if said Democratic presidents had made real reforms, the actions Trump is committing right now wouldn’t be possible.

Yep, and the “block everything” McConnell senate of Obama’s terms would have allowed that reform too. You could conceivably make that argument about Biden for 2 fucking years if not for Sinnema(sp?) and that chucklefuck from WV.

The Dems are feckless but the president can’t just decree shit. (well, unless you’re trump I guess)

McConnell made things difficult, sure, but Obama had a supermajority for eight months of his first term.

Biden had Manchin and Sinema, but he wasn’t without recourse. He could have targeted Manchin’s daughter for regulation or investigation, because her company price gouges for prescription drugs and kills people. Sinema could have been stripped of all of her committee assignments, which would have made bribing her worthless and impacted her financially as well as severely limiting her power as a swing vote.

But, at the end of the day, you pointed out the most critical thing. Presidents have power. They just need to be willing to wield it in order to create change. The reason you’re seeing Democrats participate in fascism and pretend to be powerless is that it serves their wealthy benefactors and they’re happy to take those $100k bribes, I mean, “speech” engagements.

Have you seen the damage caused by their bullets? It’s like using frozen paintballs, at the high end of allowed PSI, but the size of a golf ball. LA civilians rn are under hostile armed force. They need an armed* resistance to take out the members of the police that do not act as police. They do not get punished. They just get deployed again.

*I know this is difficult. Non lethal weapons are harder to obtain than lethals, and the moment the resistance use lead is the moment the invading army do too.

“Less lethal” as in “lethal less often [than bullets].”

Remember that there is no such thing as a “non lethal” weapon and these blackshirts are casually gambling with other peoples lives

No cop has ever been held accountable for whatever bullshit they pull when they’re in riot gear. They’re basically anonymous and the worst that will happen is a civil settlement with the city (which won’t even come out of the police budget!).
