Florida superintendents have been advised by the state’s education agency to nix their Advanced Placement Psychology classes unless they exclude any topics related to gender or sexuality, according to a press release from The College Board.
Such a shift would mean the courses couldn’t be called Advanced Placement, however, or used by students to earn college credit, the College Board said.
“We are sad to have learned that today the Florida Department of Education has effectively banned AP Psychology in the state by instructing Florida superintendents that teaching foundational content on sexual orientation and gender identity is illegal under state law,” the statement reads. “The state has said districts are free to teach AP Psychology only if it excludes any mention of these essential topics.”
In June, the College Board said they would not alter its popular AP Psychology class after the state asked the organization to review all AP courses to see if they “need modification to ensure compliance” with a Florida law and state Board of Education rule targeting instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity.
How does anyone stand living in such a state? I’d move, family and job and friends be damned.
I’m originally from Orlando and I moved to Minnesota about seven years ago, I knew things weren’t going to get better for trans people there so I left to protect myself. Moving is expensive and scary, and making new friends elsewhere is also difficult. Having actually done it, I don’t look down on people who can’t.
Yes you are of course correct about moving, I hope Minnesota is good for you though.
I’m trying to. What would you say to me?
That’s what they’re hoping for. States like Florida and Texas have slowly become more purple. They want to turn that back to solid red.
I suppose you’re right. Ugh.
I stumbled across some woman from Florida on Instagram hashtags who is a Florida Trumper and is astonishingly pregnant with her seventeenth child. I fell down a rabbit hole of her friends and it’s absolutely no wonder Florida is what it is.
Be careful not to fall down her rabbit hole. There’s probably a bunch of unsuspecting guys down there
Lol just her Jesus loving and apparently highly fertile husband.
“Idiocracy” prophesized this would happen.
Ruining their economy and livelihoods to own the Libs.
Federal taxes from the liberal states will continue to prop them up.
I udes to live in a smaller town in Upstate NY. Earlier this year I returned there for some family stuff. So many people told me they want to move to Florida because they love desantis. I didnt even ask. And i dont live in Fl. Its jusr a small town and they know im from outnof town so they tell me about thier national aspirations as a result. It’s truly incomprehensible to me. Honestly, most of thier hardline issues at this point just mystify the fuck out of me. Just stop pretending to be good people at least already.
Upstate NY is kind of wild. I don’t live too far away and have driven through some of those towns and they are definitely rural folk.
I hear they call burgers “steamed hams” for some reason.
I wrote a whole comment about Connecticut and steamed burgers before realizing this was a Simpsons reference lol
Checking in from the Albany area! They’re only real steamed hams if the Aurora Borealis is localized entirely in the kitchen while it’s being made.
Unfortunately, if everyone who disagrees moved out, it would just leave the state and its electoral votes to these baboons. Florida is more purple than red. There’s actually a good chance to turn this around if people remember to vote.
We moved 6 years ago to Seattle WA.
That must be a relief.
There are bubbles. The bubbles won’t protect you from the heat or the mosquitoes though.
Or the leprosy, don’t forget the leprosy.
