Summary
Donald Trump angered Christian MAGA supporters by appointing televangelist Paula White-Cain to lead his newly established White House Faith Office.
White-Cain, a proponent of prosperity theology, is viewed by many evangelicals as a “heretic” who exploits faith for profit. Prosperity theology believes that God rewards the truly faithful with material wealth and personal success.
Conservative Christians condemned the move, calling it Trump’s “worst decision,” citing her controversial teachings and personal scandals.
White-Cain, a longtime Trump ally, previously advised his administration and led prayers contesting the 2020 election results.
It’s almost as though Donald Trump is disingenuous.
Trump’s ‘worst decision,’
That’s fucken rich
Did I miss something that walked back the whole ‘separation of church and state’ thing?? There’s been so much shit flying around lately, and so many flies buzzing around carrying that shit…
Well there was the little Christofascist takeover.
For some reason, I thought it was codified in…I’m not based in the US so I could very well be off about that. I guess it’s too far along in the takeover for there to be any kind of practical resistance to any of this part
Lots of things that are codified in the constitution are falling apart now. If Republicans control all branches of the government, including much of the judiciary, there’s little chance of any of it being enforced.
Lol, that’s been ignored for a while now
enrages some and converts others.
I couldn’t think of anyone more qualified than this person to lead Trump’s “faith” office.
I know right … because the religious faith they’re talking about is not Christianity, it’s the religion and worship of MONEY.
Televangelists have money. Trump like money. Trump like televangelist
White-Cain’s prosperity theology is perfect for the White House faith office and for trump. The ghouls deserve each other. America needs to see the rot laid bare.
All these MAGAts can eat shit and die. Preferably soon, slowly, painfully, and publicly.
Be the change you want to see?
Well, this is the group that will let donvict shit in their mouth if they think a normal American would have to smell it.
So they just might.
White-Cain, who is twice-divorced, is currently married to Journey guitarist Jonathan Cain.
I didn’t really need a reason to dislike Journey even more but ok.
This seems 100% on-brand for both sides. No notes.
Prosperity theology believes that God rewards the truly faithful with material wealth and personal success.
“Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”
- Matthew 19:24
No, no… Look, the “eye of the needle” was just some narrow wall in the city of Jerusalem. If you tried hard enough, you could squeeze a fully-laden camel through. So, see: Jesus was saying that it was still possible to be filthy rich and get into heaven. Just have to squeeze your way in. No need to learn an uncomfortable lesson here.

Is that enough for conservative Christians to stop supporting him though? Or is it all just hubris?
The conservative Christians i know are already pulling back from him, but only in a “he’s a bad person but he’s helping us on some issues”, which is quite different from what they were saying before the election.
Funny that THIS makes him a bad person, but being an adulterer and rapist was just fine by them.
Eh, I don’t think it’s specifically related to this story. But I do agree that it’s concerning that they were totally fine with it before the election.
Also, Trump has been a vocal proponent of prosperity gospel whenever he’s gone into any detail about his relationship to Christianity. That’s not something new either.
Is that enough for conservative Christians to stop supporting him though?
As long as she looks like a FOX News hostess that they not-so-secretly want as their bang-maid: No.
I figured the prosperity bullshit would have been fast-tracked to “True Christian” status among today’s xtians…
“…viewed by many evangelicals as a “heretic” who exploits faith for profit.” — They are so close to figuring this out, yet so far.
It’s been 5,000 years and people are still scratching their heads
