Imho the price is justified. By raw numbers it’s a beefier steam deck for + $30.

Oh, and you get a dock that increases its power.

By raw numbers I have around 500 games on steam and there’s a huge sale every 3-4 months. Deck is also a pretty capable computer and runs Linux. Deck can run games from many platforms, not just steam.

Although we still number consoles, in a lot of ways we did get our “tiered” console structure.

Take most people’s daily plays, and I’d say about 90% of them or more have an edition available on the prior gen console. And it makes sense when so many of those games have relatively basic graphics - and when game engines have gotten better at scalability.

So, those consoles are neatly serving as a low budget option for a lot of gamers that can’t follow all the latest and most expensive games. Yes, some newer releases will be fully excluded; but even then, getting a brand new or used Switch or PS4 can introduce someone to a huge number of games if they haven’t been exploring options.

I been here since the NES days. Nintendo doesn’t lower prices. Edit: don’t mean to sound stand offish but I’d be surprised if Nintendo ever does that

This would work, if people wouldn’t buy them regardless. I have no doubt this console will be successful, but I’m not gonna kid myself and think nobody is going to buy it at that price.

With this economy the sales numbers will be low. They should consider a 300 price point and make up the loses with the sale of their games.

I’m not a big Nintendo fan, because of their pricing and lawsuits, but I’m siding with them on this one.

If you can’t afford a Switch 2, don’t buy one.

This is coming from someone who really couldn’t afford one right now. We wait until we can or the price goes down (oh wait. Nintendo doesn’t do that )

I think it very tone deaf with regards to how their trying to up the prices of games, which I think is BS, and increasing the price of accessories, and locking things behind subscriptions.

Very much so a Blizzard, “don’t you have phones?” Type of situation.

      Or, and hear me out…

If you’re working on your credit score… Go for it!

I was able to get an Xbox Series X and made on-time monthly payments for it over 2 years. It opened a new line of credit and regular automatic payments toward it did wonders for my credit score.

Except that was about internet connectivity and this is about price. Telling people to go with the old console because they can’t due to a bullshit restriction is crazy, saying it about price is pretty fair. If you can’t afford a current gen console, then the last gen would be the best option. At $450USD it will still be the cheapest console on the market other than the Switch 1.

I’m honestly shocked people are so up in arms about the price. Doesn’t really seem like Nintendo is gouging here, a comparable phone or tablet with the same specs comes in around the same price or higher. It has pretty much every feature people were asking for at about a $100USD premium over the existing Switch.

Raising standard game prices, charging for the tutorial app, and charging for next gen upgrades, that I get the pushback on.

They’re both about price in my opinion.

Personally I don’t feel the console itself is that bad, but $80 Nintendo games, that never go on sale, can fuck right off.

A base model steam deck is $50 cheaper than this, a base model Xbox series s is $150 dollars cheaper, and it’s the same price as a PS5 slim.

I would agree about getting buying the cheaper version, if it doesn’t also might mean buying an EOL product.

If Nintendo stops providing updates and new games of the old switch (soonish) then (what I suspect from console gaming) then suggesting to buy the old product from Nindendo looks like they just want to empty their Switch 1 stockpile.

If Nintendo just treats the Switch 1 and 2 as the same console, with just different performance and price, but get the same support period and games, then I am fully with you.

Well, traditionally, console prices were subsidized by the more expensive game prices. They’d sell the console at a loss to then make that back per game. Them raising both the console price as well as game prices is what makes it awful.

Company says that if you can’t afford their expensive product, you should buy one of their cheaper ones. Well yeah… Did anyone expect something else here? They aren’t going to give you a special deal, nor are they going to advise you to buy elsewhere. This is so pointless.

Well I’m making myself a deal, starting today, no more gas station trips for soda. If I can make it the month and start riding my bike again, I’m getting a steam deck.

And will emulate the fuck out of switch games. Kiddo already has a hacked switch.

Yeah, Microsoft had a similar stance around the Xbox One timeframe! It worked out great for them.

Just don’t talk about it, Nintendo, that’s a better PR strategy.

They aren’t going to give you a special deal

      1. The Switch 2 and Mario Kart World bundle is a good deal.
      2. If you’re working on your credit score and it’s time to open a new line of credit, get a credit card with a $200 welcome reward that gives you $200 back if you spend $500 in the first three months. Perfect for the Switch 2 with other items for launch. Just sayin’.
