… they deliver food in old city centres like this al the same, they just use bikes or mopeds.

Also non-car food delivery is better, especially during rush hours.

The title is garbage, but ADHD folk can have a lot of problems preparing food, even ordering food.

Having an option if all else fails is a lifesaver (getting regular-ish nutrition & not starving for a couple of days at a time - not a short term issue, but the psychological effects can compound over time … this is also the segue/mechanic why so many adhd ppl develop persistent depression).

Edit: to clarity - with delivery I just meant

Having an option if all else fails

An option some ADHD peeps can use, 100% not an option developed to help with ADHD fuckery.

I hate third-party delivery services, those are just exploiting workers & act monopolistic when it comes to fees they change to the restaurants.

I go get my own food, but it still happens that I can’t leave my apparent sometimes so I assumed this does help some people.

        I feel seen

Other delivery options help or like pre-ordering pickup on apps have saved my life, but there was a span where I was living on delivery because I couldn’t shop…still kind of can’t figure out what my ‘easy’ foods can be that are also not gonna make my heart hurt.

Honest advice: find something you can do with canned beans and something you can do with boxed pasta.

My easy meals are bean tacos and “fuck it pasta” (uses jarred sauce). They’re easy, fine for me, and taste good enough

I appreciate where you’re coming from, but understand this is a very personal issue for me. I’ve been dealing with it for the majority of my life.

I’m not going to challenge the specific merits of food delivery. But everyone deals with their disorder in their own way. For example, I solve this issue by simply living next to a grocery store in a walkable area. It’s something I’ve worked towards over time.

What infuriates me is someone trying to code something as “ADHD-adjacent” - and in this case, pass it off as though exploitative gig service delivery apps are some kind of accessibility measure. We are particularly susceptible to the weapons of the information age, which has engineered easy dopamine hits within the reach of our fingers at all times. They are NOT there to make our lives better. They are there to exploit, profit, and manipulate.

Oh, yeah, for sure, the garbage (0-sense) title is screaming monetisation of all the things for a few clicks.

I too resolved a lot of my food issues by having stores in the same building I live (and nice restaurants in the 1 to 5 minute walk where I can skip the delivery & go get it myself).

          With delivery I just meant

Nearly every single restaurant had food delivery services prior to Uber/Doordash’s existence. Many still have.

I mean, there’s a reason pizza delivery scooters have been a thing since the 1980’s.

Not only that - if they still do they usually offer lower prices. Even lower if you pick it up yourself.

Those big 3rd-party delivery services sux, they exploit workers (pay, “tips”) and restaurants (fees).

Big tech ‘disruptions’ are just a facade to get monopoly without providing anything new.

        Speaking as an adhd person:

I cannot afford to use these services.

I cannot deal with their bullshit, and, as someone with marginalized aspects of my identity, cant deal with their spyware.

I can, however, walk about a block to a 24 hour grocery store or pizza place thats open late. If i fucked up.

Not really, we tend to have a “main street” where all the popular businesses are lined up, but otherwise a lot of towns are pretty car-centric.

Many(most?) older towns did have a town square, many still do in various forms. Though it’s not the town square they’re about; it’s the medium density mixed-use housing.

Most modern US towns were basically founded about or after the time cars were invented. Or at least have experienced the vast amount of it’s growth since the car was invented. So stores and shops, courthouses, post offices, etc have just been built all over the place.

I think it is, yeah. It has a metro station relatively close by, which food delivery people often use to get around the city center. The streets around it are also very walkable, and you can go by bike. I don’t think it is a problem for food delivery at all.

Pretty sure I’m not ADHD, but I completely agree on that 25-50% thing. It’s ridiculous. I’ve never had a craving that was bad enough to justify throwing money away.

Come to think of it, if I ever do have a craving that bad, I wouldn’t trust my food to DoorDash. I’ll pick it up myself and make sure my order is still warm when it gets to my house.

With ADHD, you can suddenly be depleted of energy, not have the motivation to cook, or simply forget to eat. When you get hungry you can go ," Ah whatever I’ll order delivery"

NOW. It may be more prominent in ADHD folk, as myself, but it is not just an ADHD folk issue. This person is just making ADHD their entire personality, and pointing fingers at things they don’t like.

Also, I’m almost positive that Madrid( is this Madrid?)has food delivery services.

Admittedly on big cities these can be a bit of a tourist trap, but they’re nice for events and so on.

They’re also often in front of official buildings or big monuments, so they often were just… the place where stuff happened. You know, back when giving the news involved shouting them at a group of people.

Back when I was in a city with millions of other people within spitting distance I never interacted with anybody. These days I can’t walk my dog without having to have five separate instances of small talk.

I sit on a field on a daily basis and people still talk to me.

People think small towns are like a house over here and a house all the way over there and you don’t see anybody unless you try. They’re not. They’re like a small segment of a city. You just keep bumping into people you know instead of strangers because there’s less of you and you all go shop to the same store.

I mean, they are over here. I assume Americans probably have a different read on the matter because they’re weird and they do weird things.

Cities are cities, though. You don’t talk to anybody because you don’t know anybody. I haven’t been able to change my coffee order in my usual place here because the waiter just brings me my usual without me saying anything now. In a large city I could order a fizzy enema for breakfast and nobody would bat an eye.

It’s not that one is better than the other, but if you want anonimity and social isolation? It’s cities all the way.

Which I dont understand why anyone would want to spend that kind of money to live in a shit hole… why would someone want to pay to be that close to other people and live in disgusting conditions. I have been to way too many american cities and they are always horrible. Parts of peoples commutes is to step over the homeless who are usually drugged out of their minds. This isnt a “he has issues” its more of a “he doesnt understand the rational”
