Unfortunately I can’t cancel, as I’m not a subscriber. I’ll at least go and hammer refresh on their cancellation page with caching turned off.

They took it down to stop cancellations. The mass exodus hopefully continues.

America is built on shareholders getting profits. If they don’t make money, things change.

Yeah, there’s no chance a company like Disney can’t serve a SPA for cancellation at this scale. This is deliberate.

Single Page Application. I usually associate it with a fairly complicate web “page” that dramatically remakes itself in the browser, but is typically lightweight on the backend.

I would assume this is even simpler than “SPA” would suggest.

Yeah I wasn’t even aware of the term SPA, but in this case I’d have simply called that a form. Form web pages are almost as old as the web itself.

I think “thoughts and prayers” are the bottom of the barrel. This is actively withholding money from Disney. And Disney LOVES money. If enough people stop giving Disney money, then the “line goes up” people will not get tens of millions of dollars and they’ll have to take some action. This isn’t a meaningless gesture. Obviously it depends on how many people cancel their subscriptions. How’s spotify doing nowadays?

You are right. There is always lower. But it would be naive to bet on internet hype for having any consequences. Yes , you, me, many here, might change purchasing behavior for longer. But this is a microcosm and such a tiny fraction of the mass.

It doesn’t take a lot of pressure to make a company cave, the James Gunn saga is one example.

If this causes a noticeable drop in revenue for them, they will care.

The problem is, there was no reason to cave. Likewise there is no reason for Kimmel to even come back if they can waffle so easily, he doesn’t need the money and could probably shop a show on cable somewhere to have more say in how he can make fun of a current administration however fascist they wanna play or how much they want to play the victim.

It won’t cause a noticeable drop more than having their broadcasting license revoked, which is what they were threatened with. Kimmel will likely cave.

No it “would” not be, it is. Don’t know if you’ve noticed but our gov hasn’t cared about the constitution for a long time, and no time less than today where people are being deported and imprisoned in concentration camps with no due process.

Not to sound like a broken record, but this is again a real world example of why corporations aren’t people. The entire point of forming a corporation is to make a company completely devoid of individual responsibility. It becomes its own entity, but that entity is a machine. Each individual within the company is just following a predetermined set of rules/orders.

They’ll always just do what helps them make money over what is moral, but I don’t even believe that’s a disparaging remark as much as a factual one. It’s just how corporations are meant to work.

Corporations are absolved of moral responsibility just like any machine. Since the ends have already been predetermined, the closest to individual autonomy humans have is the decision to participate or not.

Either they make money, or they don’t survive. Starving corporations by not feeding them your money is literally the only way to force them to change their predetermined survival strategy or perish. It’s also why huge conglomerates that take away any choice in support are such a threat. If we keep allowing them, ultimately, humans will probably be forced to either just give in to the machine or boycott modern society altogether.

I’d agree with your comment, if it were posted ten years ago. We are already there. I cannot get any of the materials I need as a science teacher without going through fucking Amazon. There isn’t a single laboratory supply store I can find in the metro area I live in with a population of 5-million+. I can’t purchase anything without going online. Every utility is run by a corporation actively grifting the citizens, because it has complete control over whether they live or die. Every single thing I do requires either completely cutting myself off from another aspect of society or capitulating to a corpofascist monopoly or cabal of pedophilic oligarchs.

That is my point. Eventually if we keep letting everything become a giant conglomerate the choice will be a complete drop out and go live in the woods and wait for the machine to destroy itself or completely give up and just accept this is our only choice.

In the meantime, I know there are already things where this is the only choice. There is no reason to keep subscribing to Disney Plus, but when it comes to the things you can’t completely stop, just reduce where you can. It makes a difference.

I used to rely on Amazon for everything just bc it was convenient. There are some things I still do rely on it for, but I have cut waaay back on purchases from there. If I can get it somewhere else, I will.

To be fair it’s the best place for Star Wars and Marvel content. But there are other means of acquiring such media, which I will not divulge on the internet.
