LOL, what kind of metric is that? Biden may be kinda milquetoast in pursuing criminals like Donvict, but things were actually really quite good under his presidency.

A better metric is to say that Donvict is the worst president in history - he’s such a dirtbag and a greedy little shit that he may very well destroy this country. He’s that bad.

He was pretty milquetoast, but he got saddled with the post-covid ‘wtf’ the economy went through with shortages and price hikes combined with impacts from Russia’s invasion…

None of it reasonably Biden’s fault, but he got stuck with it happening on his watch so lot’s of people need to blame something vaguely controllable so they blame and vote against the president.

Presidents are usually as likely to be defined by their circumstances as their actual actions or inactions.

You forget how thoroughly demonized the democrats have been, both by opponents and even by supporters (deservedly in some cases). So just assume that when someone says “worse than Biden” just assume they’re centrist or nearly so, or just some selfish and short-sighted ass who found a leopard eating their face.

Correct. We must reject the assumption that Biden was bad in the first place. Overall, he was pretty good, but he really blew it badly in one regard.

Like all modern Democratic presidents, the first thing they have to do is introduce an Economic Stimulus Plan to fix the mess left by EVERY Republican president - Ford, Bush 41, Bush 43, and Trump. Republicans are historically terrible for the economy, and it’s always up to Democrats to fix it.

But Biden also had to start a Covid Vaccine Program from scratch. Trump had the vaccine soon after losing, but ignored it in favor of his obsession with planning of his Insurrection, and the theft of hundreds of classified documents. So Biden launched a successful Vaccination program right out of the gate, simultaneous with a successful Economic Stimulus program, that quickly overtook their ambitious goals. For that, he would have been in the Top 15 among presidents.

But he also appointed the most feckless Republican in history as his AG, who then dithered and slow-walked the Trump crimes, giving him a two year head start on running out the clock. He also did nothing to punish anyone under 14A/S3. He put a bunch of MAGA Morons in jail, but allowed their leaders to remain in government, and then stood by and let them steal the election from right under our noses.

Imagine we let Hitler off the hook, and allowed him to take power again a few years later, where he only got worse? Biden, with the help of our elected Democratic officials, did exactly that. For that unforgivable malpractice, Biden’s good works will be forgotten, and he will forever be known as the weakling who HELPED Trump to rise again, and he will settle among the Worst 15 presidents in American history.

It’s a shame, he really had a decent presidency overall, but his cowardice in dealing with the rising MAGA threat ruined his legacy.

The war was inevitable by the time Buchanan took office. He could have forestalled it or prepared the Union for it more adequately, and deserves blame for basically doing neither of those things, but he isn’t a direct cause. In fact, many of his political options for corralling the South in the antebellum period could have caused the war to start earlier than it did. It’s just a personal belief of mine that he gets more hate than he really deserves, especially compared to people who could have easily been better like Johnson.

Johnson didn’t invent racism. Even with Reconstruction proceeding properly, ALL those racists would have still been there, gumming up the works.

They got the three post-war Constitutional Amendments that formed the foundation of Reconstruction, and that was probably the biggest lift.

So Johnson was bad, but not the worst. Until now, the worst were those pre-war presidents like Buchanan that moved America toward Civil War.

Now, however, we have an actual traitor in the office, who is an asset for a hostile foreign enemy, has attempted an Insurrection, stole hundreds of classified documents, is mind-bogglingly and openly corrupt, and is a proven pedophile to boot. There is no doubt that Trump is solidly in last place, and it isn’t even close.

In fact, when he’s finally out, and we find out what was really going on behind the scenes, his last place position will only solidify.

If Reconstruction had proceeded properly, the United States would have hung all of the Confederate officers and government officials and at least pulled up the root of the problems in the South. Johnson allowed them to fester and re-emerge, and we have been living with those problems since.

Not punishing heinous crimes like chattel slavery and violent insurrection is how we get precedent for not punishing even more crimes. Like Ford pardoning Nixon so “the country can heal” and then Reagan using that precedent for Iran-Contra and then Bush using that precedent to steal the 2000 election and commit the US illegally in Iraq etc etc. And now Trump realizing that laws don’t matter at all and doing whatever he wants with impunity. Most of the Supreme Court justices are direct descendants of politics Johnson enabled. Roberts clerked for Rehnquist ffs, an avowed segregationist who wouldn’t have been politically viable if Reconstruction had succeeded.

But would Lincoln have hung all the Confederates? I doubt it. Certainly, some should have swung, like Davis and Lee, but I doubt it would have been as across the board as you suggest. Lincoln’s humanity likely would have prevented it, and he would have put the emphasis on healing, more than punishment.

I grant you, things would have been far different under Lincoln, but the lack of technology would have prevented the Federal government from dealing with many of the same inevitable problems that occured anyway. You can deal with governmental issues in the courts, but when it comes to the ground level, face-to-face interactions between people, in towns and small cities, which is where most of real life exists, especially back then, the authorities were likely to be enthusiastic about supporting racists and racist policies, and the Feds weren’t going to be much help in the best of circumstances. You could Federally squash a problem in one place, but it’s still going on in a thousand other places.

The point is that just saying Reconstruction would have gone perfectly under Lincoln, and prevented all our current problems, is a bit optimistic. I think the systemic racism of the South (and everywhere else), was going to make a fully successful Reconstruction an impossibility.

Getting the three Reconstruction amendments was the important part, because it gave us the legal foundation to constantly chip away at the systemic racism that still exists today.

But yeah, I can fully agree that Johnson was still an awful shithead.

It certainly wouldn’t have gone perfectly but I think the best evidence that it would have eventually worked out for the better is how much political power former slaves had shortly after the Civil War ended while Reconstruction, in whatever diluted form, was actually being attempted. This is the period we get the first black senator, Hiram Revels from Mississippi. Further, In 1868 black Americans made up a majority of the South Carolina’s state legislature and opened the South’s first public school system. Former slaves started taking up tons of local political offices as well. They wielded true local political power and although there were still racists opposed to their inclusion in society, it was much harder to extract former slaves from that society and subjugate them again. Once federal troops withdrew from the South all of these reforms were taken away, violently and illegally, by the people who weren’t punished under Johnson, the violence and subjugation became much easier. This is how we get Jim Crow etc.

I mean, if this period had gone on for long enough for white Southerners to benefit from it, maybe a generation or so, we wouldn’t even have the modern Republican party since it only exists today as an extension of white Southern racism that was enabled by Johnson. Instead, we get generation after generation of white Southern children being indoctrinated into racist beliefs because the leaders of the Confederacy were allowed to spread their hateful ideals throughout their society after they lost the war. We’d live in a much more egalitarian society as a whole if that hadn’t happened. Again, not without its problems, but we would have solved the major problem. It’s most of my issue with people today jumping to Trump being the worst president, not only is it recency bias but he’s just the obvious result of decisions made by Johnson et. al. during Reconstruction.

Absolutely phenomenal points, especially how the growing political power of black citizens would have made a much larger impact on their futures in society, had it not been arrested by racist Southern state governments, and that was due to the Federal government pulling out, and letting the South govern themselves.

We can’t do anything about it now, but we can learn from it, and not let the current MAGA government, an outgrowth of the worst racist policies our nation has ever tolerated, survive to live another day, once they’ve been stopped. We will need to crush MAGA, and fully purge it from American government and society. We can’t make the mistake of letting these traitors off the hook, again, or we’ll be back here in a other 100 years. We can’t keep letting these moronic losers suppress our nation’s progress any longer.

These are just depressing numbers considering what is happening daily around here:

But in the new poll, 51 percent said Trump is doing a worse job than President Biden did — a net swing of 18 points. From the pollster’s memo:

49% of voters, a plurality, say Trump’s policies thus far have set America on a worse path. 49% say Trump is doing a better job than Biden (-4).

MORE VOTERS ATTRIBUTE ECONOMY TO TRUMP OVER BIDEN

63% of voters say the current state of the economy is mostly due to the Trump administration rather than Biden (+11). 53% say it is worse than it was when Biden was president.

56% of voters say the economy is shrinking, and 66% say inflation is above 3% (-5), including a majority across political parties.

The good news for Trump, although it’s unlikely to ease the pain, is that out of 22 stated policies, 15 of them still enjoy majority support.

Don’t forget that GWB is one of the people responsible for the post-911 over-reaction that allowed all of this to happen. Both ICE and DHS were created under Bush. Extra-judicial torture was justified under Bush.

True, true. But I could argue there was someone even more responsible than Bush…

In 1995, Biden introduced the Omnibus Counterterrorism Act, which contained proposals that were later recycled into the 2001 Patriot Act.

He also helped write the 1996 Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act, which he argued was a precursor to the Patriot Act.

Biden was fucking garbage - a corporate tool all too eager to sell us out to corporate rule and a servant of Israel without even needing to be blackmailed by the Trump-Epstein child rape operation. Hell, Biden wasn’t even mentally there half the time, his staff covered up his dementia riddled brain for the latter half of his term as he stumbled about shaking hands with invisible people on stage.

And still, Trump is objectively worse by several orders of magnitude.

Agreed, there is no need covering the story with “biden was actually very good”. The truth needs to be spoken, and the truth is that democrats are essentially centrists rather than leaning left.

For change to occur a new party that is actually leftist should be appointed.

The current system is basically composed of tiny changes made by democrats and huge changes made by conservatives - tilting the definition of “centrist” ever so slightly each day.

You’re right, republicans have exploited the ratchet effect to drag the Overton Window clear off into the far right territory of full throated authoritarian rule, and democrats’ bold strategy of do nothing and see if the people’s suffering gets them more votes next time has utterly failed.

Nah but Biden also didn’t make sure to choose an AG to actually put the motherfuckers in the Epstein files behind bars, either. It’s not like the Epstein information magically appeared when Trump became President, he literally ran in 2024 on the fact that Democrats hadn’t released the files. This information was available when Biden was President. Epstein was (very likely) murdered while Trump was President the first time.

So, fuck Biden anyway, he was focusing on all this “decorum” shit when it comes to a fucking network of pedophiles and rampant corruption and oops didn’t want to make it “lOoK PoLiTiCaL” to go after criminality. Now the same people they didn’t want to look political prosecuting don’t give one single fuck about looking political in prosecuting their perceived enemies.

Fuck, Biden was literally handed a free pass when the Supreme Court ruled that when a President does it, it’s not a illegal. He could have done any number of things to prevent this with the backing of a Supreme Court decision that was tailored to support Trump but technically applied to any President.

Democrats may not be in the files, but they sat on their fucking asses writing strongly worded letters and throwing up their hands going “but it’s too hard to make sure they go down! Gears of justice turn slowly, so slowly that Trump can be voted back into office even with all this hanging over him!”

It’s a crock of shit, Democrats are culpable for not taking this fight to the mat and instead being wishy washy limp dicks who handed over the reigns of the government to corruption twice in a row.

Biden would have released the file if Israel was not involved . Biden prefer to protect Israel over revealing Trump involvement with Epstein . Not to say that Trump is not also involved in supporting Israeli genocidal war

There were at least two “Biden pooped themselves” incidents. One was the DDay memorial. The second was an audience with the pope.

I honestly don’t even care if our president accidentally shits themselves. I mean, it happens.

What I do care about is if our president has such a fragile ego that they’ll lie and punish other people because they shit their pants. The kind of person who will accuse everyone else of shitting their pants, but only because that person’s own pants are constantly weighed down by dookies. The kind of person who can’t forgive themselves for a little brown downtown, so they steal and extort an entire country, just so that they can extort other countries and become friends with other people who love lying about their bowel movements.

I honestly don’t even care if our president accidentally shits themselves.

And the problem with that, is that other people do. And if you don’t pick a candidate that is acceptable to a broad enough coalition to win the election: you don’t win the election.

Its not a matter of what you’ll accept out of a candidate; its a matter of what the electorate will accept as a candidate. And while you might be accepting of pants-shitter to make some of the most impactful decisions that will affect almost every person on the planet, the American people wont. You being willing to accept less makes you irrelevant; you aren’t a vote we need to work to get. Which is fine. Its your vote. Do what you will. You don’t need to have standards.

But, by putting the bar so low and accepting a pants-shitter, you sabotage our collective ability to actually get that person into office. It should be obvious to you now, that not enough other people wanted to elect a pants-shitter. And as a cohort, the Biden apologists, by insisting that everyone else lower their standards to that of a geriatric who was barely present, these people are saboteurs who kneecapped our ability to stop Trump.

And since you have such low standards, I expect that you should be willing to accept that your view doesn’t matter and shouldn’t be weighted as highly as people who need something more, like a specific set of policies or a certain level of competency. We don’t need to work for your vote: you’ll vote for a pants-shitter. This is great because it lets us narrow down the field to candidates for people who do have some standards, for example, that they don’t want to vote for someone who is an advocate for genocide them as a people. Or who want police reform. Or any number of other issues. Literally any ones opinion should be weighted more highly, since, like you said, you’ll basically vote for anyone, even a barely walking, senile geriatric, who shits their pants on stage.

That’s some impressively aggressive ableist language dripping throughout your comment. I assume your words come from anger and not thinking about perspectives other than the one that upsets you the most. Lots of people shit their pants, it wasn’t something that our last two presidents invented.

Behold, a president who needed significant assistance, because he’d otherwise have shit his pants. And possessed the kind of personality I mentioned where he wouldn’t have made pointing out other people’s poopie pants his entire identity:

              FDR

Okay, but it’s not like these are people with lifelong conditions and injuries that cause a disability. They’re just so god damn old they have allegedly lost bowel control.

That certainly happens to many with age, but if you are old enough to have lost bowel control from age alone I’m going to question if that advanced age has not effected their mental capacity.

Our leaders need to be mentally competent. Suffering physical symptoms of advanced age makes it seem like they are/were not able to handle the very demanding job of running the country

We know its not in good faith and they’re showing their whole ass with their response. They don’t want to be responsible for the fact that in carrying water for these Dems they paved the way for fascism.
