The issue was that the instance was running on a single server, run by one person, who pays for it out of pocket and doesn’t get any money back.
But my guess is, that’s true for all but the biggest instances.

Meanwhile, I’m clicking on posts of monster dongs, going to the sub dedicated to monster dongs, just to try to see fewer dongs. And so yeah, my gripe is with my client, but I’d love a long press, block sub, bing bang boom.
Same here. I block all kinds of communities, often just because they’re not relevant to my interests.
I wish I knew a way to block a community without having to visit that community first, directly from my front page where a post from that community is showing up.

One on lemmynsfw with a post from 2 days ago and that I’m a frequent contributor to, and one on .world where the last post was 2 months ago (and that I’ve never interacted with) that doesn’t even show up in the search results without some dedicated scrolling. I’m going to say it’s effectively impossible to conflate the two accidentally. It’s getting kinda creepy how insistant you are that I must be wrong about doing something completely reasonable.

In her* my bad* defense I know it’s been down for days, but I clicked a link to a lemmynsfw post this morning and it did open, then I tested it again a while ago and it didn’t, so it is weird.

But there are new posts on Gonewild from two days ago, which doesn’t track with the people saying it’s been down for four days - I suspect the outage is intermittent, but unless the admin comes forward with info there’s no way for anyone to know right now.

Heck I have multiple logins, one for looking at naughty stuff, one for seeing general stuff plus nsfw memes, and a mostly PG login for general use.

So this thread has shown a weird number of fucking Puritans on Lemmy but no answers to the question.
As far as I can tell, one of the main selling points of lemmy is actually the ability to filter out all NSFW communities, which is better than reddit where they conflate “nsfw for porn” with “nsfw for a swear word or scary topic in this text post.”
If people want to express a dislike of porn or say “eh it’s bad for you so stop browsing there” then I don’t mind. Could just block them if it gets really excessive.
It’s more like a few people loudly announce it and then get pelted with downvotes
Lemmynsfw admin here, partially my fault but mostly not.
The other admin owned the server and the domain, suddenly he stopped responding, I started getting concerned and shit you not before all this happened I was planning on making a backup the weekend AFTER the site went down. But of course that never happened. That’s the part that’s my fault, I should have been backing things up ages ago.
The server is down, and I had access to the server, but not the platform it’s hosted on. One day the server just… turned off. Other admin isn’t responding and I have no way to get the data from the site.
I have access to, but don’t own the domain. So the plan now is to look into other hosting options, like the fedihost beta program, and spin up a Lemmy and/or piefed instance and redirect from the old domain to a new one I own. But yeah unfortunately it looks like the site as it was is dead :(
