Fox News appears to have removed their DOW ticker in a pattern for the company, choosing to block out the steep drop in DOW points after Trump’s tariff announcement
Reminds me of how his administration stopped reporting on COVID testing. Obviously if you suck at something, you should just not tell anyone, even if it affects the entire American constituency in a massively dangerous way.
The Third Reich was terrible when it came to reporting on civilian deaths.
Fox ‘news’*: anything I disagree with is terrorism, trump isn’t a bigoted idiot tanking the economy, there’s no class war, we’re just entertainment not news 🤡
Another bloodbath day on the DJI:

To be fair, I wouldn’t be surprised if, had they not removed the ticker, they’d gotten complaints about anti-Trump bias.
Not saying they were justified, but at this point, their viewers are as radical as they are.
Don’t visit this site without a great adblocker.
There is only 1. uBlock Origin.
Shmaybe a little AdGuard on crippled devices (e.g. iOS)
I use both on Android and am as happy as can be!
Orion is an iOS browser that lets you use uBlock Origin (along with many other Firefox and Chrome extensions). I can’t speak for their ownership though, I have no idea if it’s a good company or not.
I heavily recommend Wipr 2.0 for anyone using iOS! It takes care of cookie banners, auto scrolling videos, and ads and all that stuff.
Yeah yeah yeah!!! Gimme that propaganda!!! Gimme that denial!!! Happy happy ignorance!!!
It’s called “Soma”
Citing fox “news” as trusted media source ought to disqualify you from voting. Prove me wrong.
My local fox news is actually pretty good at reporting basic local news, it is the national programs that are foaming at the mouth propaganda.
All they’re trying to do there is control the narrative for local news. When it’s not beneficial for them to spread propaganda they won’t. They should still carry the warning. That station can either de-affiliate with Fox, or actual local news can fill the gap.
I saw it but I cannot find it. But I recall Fox News admitting they’re not news when pressured for disseminating fake news.
They used it as a defence in court. Multiple times. Something to the effect of “no reasonable person would believe they were being truthful/ serious.”
Edit: apparently this defence was only used for shows like O’Reilly and Tucker Carlson, not the whole channel. Personally I don’t think the average FN viewer would be able to discern the distinction, but who knows.
It’s not their whole channel, it’s about the talk/opinion shows presented on their channel. They defend Cucker’s show and Oreilly’s show as entertainment, knowing full well their base can’t tell fact from conjecture, history from projection, or plan from opinion.
Thanks for the clarification!
murdoch purposely seperate fox from his main company, newscorp, so the liabilities of a lawsuit would not affect his other propaganda networks.
IMO they should be prevented as labeling themselves as a news source if they called themselves satire in court.
They called themselves “entertainment” not “news”
During the Dominion voting scandal they revealed the fact that they’re all liars and propagandists. They settled before even more information came out but Fox Viewers will learn it and then go crawling back to them anyways.
Multiple times, in multiple court cases. Tucker Carlson argued that no regular viewer would consider his content news or factual.
The fact that they get away with this is infuriating. They should have to put a Surgeon General warning label on the screen like tobacco product have on the package.
“WARNING: This content is for entertainment purposes only. We acknowledge that most of the content presented is not factual, and most of the opinions are not based on reality. This platform was created explicitly as a right-wing propaganda outlet to spin damaging news stories and prevent another Republican from being impeached after Watergate. Viewing the content and opinions presented will leave you less informed than not viewing any content at all”
I like this idea. Why should warnings be designated for physical consumption only?
I’ve seen enough 1AM porno commercials in the early 2000s to know that these warnings already exist for some content.
Throw up that warning with a mandatory font size and duration like a law and order disclaimer on a black screen.
I’m seeing the King Of The Hill meme right now.
“Those viewers would be very upset right now if they could read”
Maybe force some bottle blonde to read it to them. Seems to be the only way to get info past the barrier.
they did have nazi barbie due a salute on tv once. Laura ingarham, if you look at her history shes every bit of a terible person.
Thank you! That helps narrow the search. I’m trying to fund him on video saying it, or the court transcript, so when I’m told “fake news” and sent Fox articles I can clarify things effectively.
I also would love to see them forced to show that warning. Maybe when we have a functional govt admin again.
I feel like it’s a very Fox News-y suggestion to ban select groups of people from voting.
I agree to a certain extent, but what’s become clear to me as I get older, is that democracy represents the will of the electorate, and when your democracy is setup to give the dumbest 50% of the electorate the most representation, shit falls apart.
If we want a progressive, effective, and beneficial government, then we need an electorate that will vote for it. For a while, we’ve tried providing education and mostly free information access to the populace so they can make informed decisions, but it’s evident that the voters don’t care for that. The only other way to get past that information apathy is to eliminate their representation.
I don’t expect this to be a morally defensible position, but more “if we want to survive as a nation, we need to do something about people living in an alternate reality formed by regressive hate propaganda”.
Sounds more like we need to more heavily regulate sources of misinformation, rather than deeming some people too stupid to participate in the system.
The same Constitution that upholds the right to vote is the same one that protects freedom of speech. I consider both options equally damaging to the underlying fabric of this country. The point being that republicans are already eroding the foundations of this nation to poison our water and air, shift wealth from the poorest people up to the richest, steal the money we’ve put aside for social services, and implement a Christian theocracy. It’s happening, so we might as well throw out the constitution as well, but use that gap to build a society where people are protected from discrimination because of immutable characteristics, and that builds for the long-term health, wellness and safety of it’s citizens.
Preventing corporate entities from presenting falsehoods as facts is not a meaningful infringement on free speech.
If it is, then it’s clear that truly free, totally unrestricted in any way speech isn’t a good idea.
Maybe corporations shouldn’t have constitutional rights.
Glances at Citizens United
In reality, “Democracy” as invented by the Greeks was never intended to be held by the uneducated. Ever citizen got a vote, but frankly not everyone was a citizen.
The rights of a citizen came with certain expectations, and that included knowledge of the Ars Liberalis, or “Liberal Arts”, which…far from today’s demonized meaning created in order to attack higher learning, literally translated in the greek world as “the exercise of freedom”.
In other words, citizenship and voting rights obligated a person to be knowledgeable of things like Logic, History, Rhetoric, etc… You TRAINED to partake in the affairs of state just like you would prepare for any other task that requires skill and THAT was what granted you the priviledge of citizenship. (Well…that an being part of the wealthy class…)
Modern “Democracy” is predicated on the opposite; not just citizens that are ill-informed, but citizens that are so intellectually incurious that they can’t be bothered to exercise their right properly.
Absolutely.
I don’t think the qualifications for voting should be “white wealthly land-owning men”, but there has to be a filter we can use to validate that the person voting as at least 2 brain cells.
I’d like to have a basic test with blanket true/false statements around recent political talk… Maybe things like…
The 2020 election was conducted fairly without significant evidence of fraud that could have changed the result.
Vaccines have a direct and undeniable link to autism and long term damage.
Tariffs are an export tax paid by the country sending the product to another country.
Individuals with visas and green cards are not illegal immigrants.
Just a quick test like that, and then weight the vote based on how many statements they identififed correctly as True or false.
You need a way to prevent this from being corrupted. Conservatives would love to use this to prevent black folks from voting. They’re single minded and will chip away at it for decades.
Perhaps honey pots? Set up fake meetings to discuss how to prevent “those people” from voting, and everyone who attends is barred from working in government for life.
Ideally, this would filter out most if not all of the support for those conservatives who’s entire platform is based on lies and fear. MTG, Boebert, etc… They only exist as public figures because they went along with Qanon conspiracies.
America’s North Korean propaganda network at it again.
I bet once the markets come back up after he lifts those tariffs again, the ticker will be back.

There’s no coming back from this. You are delusional.
You came back from the last Republican tariffs caused chaos from 1930. I never said recovery would happen in our lifetimes.
Just in time for the next election
Last time (1930) it took down the US economy, you threw out the Republicans and President Hoover, and the Democrats under Roosevelt had to fix the mess, which finally happened about 1934. Since then it is textbook established that tariffs are a stupid idea, but sadly the only historical books the orange turd reads are “Mein Kampf”…
This modern tariff-induced catastrophe is different from the one in 1930 in one important aspect: Back then, the reliance on foreign trade was way, way smaller than today. If the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act of 1930 put the US into a serious recession (with still lower tariffs than Trumps!), guess what will happen today in an America that cannot produce screws, bolts and nuts; transistors, resistors, and capacitors; and about every piece of mass-produced item, being it plastic, metal, or whatever.
Don’t look down
Pussies
it seems to me like the people should have no problem coordinating an attack on fox news that would take them off the air. i feel like that’s an easy one to do that doesn’t require a leader, just anonymously post maps detailing the infrastructure of their studios, where security guards are posted, any known passkeys, etc.
If this hypothetical were to come to pass I personally wouldn’t call it an attack, so much as a day of love where nothing was done wrong.
Eh. I don’t care about Internet points, I just think it’s funny. And even though we’re on Lemmy we should probably still be careful about out-and-out calling for attacks against a rogue president’s favorite news station.
We can go politely ask them to stop broadcasting. In numbers.
no offense, but can we please stop with the goose and gander comparisons? it just feels like trying to slam dunk for internet points. we all know they’re hypocrites. let’s just focus on solutions rather than finger pointing.
that would take them off the air.
Not sure how hard that would be. Their disaster recovery plan would have to be pretty bad not to be able to switch to another geographic location in a hot minute. And if they’re still in Rockefeller, you’d probably have a hell getting past the elevators without them shutting it down. They probably have backup satellite uplink so you can’t just knock out their fiber.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for another Max Headroom, but I think we need to shut them down with fairness in broadcasting laws, or, gallows, just sayin’
well good luck with the regulations part. i’ve lost all faith in lawful good actions.
A British owned tabloid posing as an Irish paper reporting on American news. There aren’t many worse sources.
A shame on the memory and legacy of Michael Collins and James Connolly.
As in…you need to be blonde to not be carried away to a gulag in Guantanamo.
Man this sounds familiar. Need blonde hair and blue eyes?
Ahh the age of golden shower America. Isn’t it gargle
Trump is reliving the glorious P tape days.
